Okay, I gave Couric a chance....
I had my local CBS news on tonight, and didn't change the channel as I normally do when the CBS Evening News comes on.

She's in Miami - through the first 20 minutes I had no clear idea why - standing outside with either the wind or a fan riffling through her hair. Do these anchors think that being on location makes them a 'reporter'? She looked silly and out of place.

First story was about the stem cell 'break through', which Couric handed off to their so-called medical reporter. He was breathless with excitement - I mean really overheated - as he told me this breakthrough means researchers won't have to 'kill' embryos. Someone from the Bush administration also trumped up the embryo factor and said that dozens, maybe hundreds (wow, maybe not that big of a discovery) of researchers will be right on this tomorrow. Only at the end was a researcher given a few seconds to cast doubt on the 'break through' and the story hastily ended with a caveat that these skin cells could become cancerous and may be years away from being used.

Second big story was how to spy on your children's internet usage. They featured a teenager, maybe 15, who seemed awfully old to have her mother read her email. I found myself losing interest very quickly. No real news so far, just a poorly balanced story on the stem cells and then this trash.

My attention is wandering, but I think she's in Miami to report on oyster beds there. Another big 'scoop'.

I guess nothing is happening in the middle east. Lots of time, though, for fluff and weirdness.

I gave Couric a chance, and learned almost nothing from her broadcast. Terrible dreck. Bizarre location with Couric standing outside staring blankly into the camera. Uninteresting and dull, except for above-mentioned overheated medical 'reporter' who was merely repulsive.

In case you, too, were thinking of checking out CBS Evening News...don't waste a half hour of your life.

but this sacrifice of yours proves, once and for all, she's all too willing to parrot Rethuglican talking points, and be a propanda vehicle for the current Misadministration.

11. sounds about the same to me...
the more I watch, the less I know. I don't watch it anymore. In my spare time I read fiction...it seems closer to truth than anything else I can find.

4. I've avoided Katie Couric like the plague....
....ever since her interview on 60 Minutes with the Edwards family. "Some people say..."--over and over. :eyes:

21. I knew that would be
embarassingly unwatchable but I did it anyway because I wanted to see John and Elizabeth. It was predictable with couric but John and Elizabeth were first class all the way and it was worth it just to see them. Never again.

8. Couric deserves the hell on earth that she is helping to create.
Too bad for the rest of us that we are stuck here with her. Ever since I saw her reporting from the top of the desk, legs crossed, I have been unable to hear or look at her without side effects. Peace, Kim

9. Almost as bad as Hannah Storm and her Anchormoms Against Lead
I really try to avoid the False Noise Machine but found myself staring in horror at it this morning as Hannah and The Anchormoms went on and on and on and on.... oh actually they had nothing at all to say about those evil Chinese as they have moved on from Evil Chinese Lead to Toys That Will Just Ruin Your Tot. I got the message loud and clear:

Be Afraid

10. CBS's ratings
are lowest among the networks, and couric has been struggling since taking the anchor post.

Too bad that CBS news writers are joining the picket lines. Probably the nail in the coffin for this elfin bimbo.

We're not far removed from the day of telescreens.

I'm surprised how quickly CBS News and the country have fallen.

According to South Park. I have to agree.

19. when she first took over, I tuned in to see the freakshow. And it didn't disappoint.

Then I hear she is "toning it down". uh huh. And of course, curiosity got the best of me. Another wasted 10 minutes (yes, that was all I could stomach). Never again. Unless it's her final day in the anchor chair. Then I'd tune in for the entire show for her to bid her goodbyes.

edit for typo

25. Did the same for Charlie Gibson
I have been watching ABC News, thought it was a decent report. But when he started by announcing an upcoming interview with George and Laura, Brian Williams to the rescue.
