"I took my hand off the fur-lined boot."
No wonder America is a extra-stupid country mocked by higher civilizations on this big blue earth.
Check this one out.
Yeah, I stood in line for The Beatles.
Miley Cyrus ain't no Beatles.

Man hangs on, wins `Hannah Montana' tix

Some people will do anything to make a kid happy.

Jody Powell, 35, hung on to a 12-foot statue of "Hannah Montana" for the better part of six days to win tickets to a sold-out concert by Miley Cyrus, star of the Disney Channel TV show. The concert will be held next week in Tampa.

"I'm ecstatic. It's like a dream come true," said Powell, holding four tickets to the show and a photo of his fiancee with her 7-year-old daughter, also named Hannah.

Twenty contestants started Nov. 8, placing a hand on the 400-pound statue in the parking lot of radio station WFLZ-FM, the contest's sponsor. They were allowed 12-minute breaks every three hours and got catered meals, but weren't allowed books, cell phones or iPods.

Powell was declared the winner Wednesday afternoon when the other remaining contestant, Lara Padgett, became distracted and let go.

"That sun really got to me today," said Padgett, who later was checked out at a hospital because she wasn't feeling well. "I took my hand off the fur-lined boot."

But the two had already made a deal. Powell gets the tickets, and Padgett will use the two backstage passes that are part of the prize package. They'll split a $5,000 cash prize.

12. Must every silly thing be some kind of general swipe at America?
Other countries have stupid or eerily obsessed people too, you know. Plenty of them.

15. The guy did it, as was pointed out, for his fiancee's daughter.
The same way a lot of people do things that are sometimes a little nutty to make their kids happy. Ultimately no harm came to him and all ended well. He even made a deal to split the prize with the second-place woman, which he probably did not have to do. Good for him.

Many years from now, long after his stepdaughter (possibly adopted daughter?) has lost interest in Hannah Montana and is embarrassed to look back and realize she ever thought Miley Cyrus was so great, she will remember the goofy thing her stepfather did, FOR HER. And it will still touch her heart. Even if they both have to look back on it and laugh.

If someone had died over it, it would have been stupid and tragic. As it is, it's just a story of the crazy lengths adults will go to in hopes of making kids happy. And often the kids in question aren't spoiled rotten either--they're just kids who aren't expecting it, but will be so thrilled if it happens.
