Talks on electric shock dog collar ban
Talks on electric shock dog collar ban

Nov 15 2007 by, Daily Post

THE use of electric shock dog collars could be banned in Wales.

The Welsh Assembly Government is consulting on whether to ban the sale and use of the collars, used as training aids but which could contravene animal welfare laws.

A number of different electronic training aids are on sale and are mainly used on dogs.

Some collars are designed to give the animal an electric shock either by remote control or automatically, in response to a particular behaviour, such as barking or pulling on a lead.

8. No kidding!!!! Granted it's Wales, but that "stiff upper lip" is the result of...
12v DC being applied somewhere. The English are kinkier than the Republics!

You just KNOW there's going to be a run on the stores when this news gets out.

3. I have a shock collar on both of my dogs,
Their not made to keep them from barking but it keeps them in the yard, and they can still run around on my 2 acre lot.

4. My neighbor has one for her doberman
Everything is cool until we have a power outage (which occurs frequently where I live) and then all hell breaks loose.

The fucker chased me into my house last time it happened.

10. Mine are not aggresive at all
They just bring back trash and dead animals to play with or chew on. Before we had the invisible fence, they actually dragged an extension cord from one of the neighbors house, it was used for christmas decorations outside lol.

13. The woman told me her doberman wasn't aggressive either

With the caveat, "unless someone came onto his property", and the beast must have thought my back yard became part of his property when the power went out.

Let me ask you a question if I may. Would you trust using that same fence for your dogs if your property line was only about 50 feet away from a busy interstate highway with semi-trucks and cars going past at 65 and 75 MPH?

15. Yeah that would worry me. Thankfully I live out in the country.
And the nearest 2 lane highway is around 3 miles away directly accross the fields from my house!

6. Good, the fucking things are torture for dogs,
And simply shortcuts for lazy owners who don't know how to, or don't want to take the time and effort to train their dogs properly.

7. They don't seem to work too well.
Not long ago, I found a big Basset Hound in my yard wearing one of those things.

He had escaped from his yard, but his owners found him at my house (His name was "Newman"!

11. They do not stop people or other animals from coming onto your property and either harming or
stealing your unattended dogs.
I do not believe they are the best way to handle protecting your dog inside your yard.
A fence, if one can afford it, and it is a do-able project would be the best thing. It also guards them against intruders.

14. Well, there goes sales on my Freeper Keeper(tm)

Turn the dial to gradually increase or decrease the level of stimulation at the hand-held transmitter. Infinite (instead of pre-set) levels allow the trainer (paying close attention to the freeper) to receive very early responses from the freeper as the correction is raised so that he can stop the instant that the correction level is effective (before overwhelming the freeper with a confusingly high correction.) Rheostat control enhances the consistency of the message to maintain the freeper's momentum during training sessions. No clumsy re-setting or retooling levels during the exercises.

Freeper Keeper 1750NCP Electronic Freeper Training Collar Features at a Glance:
Infinite Correction Levels - Rheostat dial on top of transmitter sets correction levels easily and instantly

Three Types of Stimulation - Nick, continuous and vibration pager
Instant "nick" correction that lasts only a fraction of a second no matter how long you hold the button down

Continuous correction that lasts as long as you hold the button down (until safety shut off occurs)

Pager-Vibration mode for a warning or to use as a call feature for long distance re-calls.

Waterproof Housing - The trainer's transmitter is water - resistant, The Freeper's collar is waterproof

More Precise & Secure Collar Positioning - Collar runs over the receiver, holding the receiver more securely against the freeper's neck in the proper position as well as making it less obvious and more comfortable.

User-Friendly Size - The transmitter is compact with large control buttons that are easy to use.

Non-Exposed Antenna - The freeper's collar is lightweight and non-obtrusive in appearance

Secure Mud Plug: The plug that protects the battery charger input on the collar is conveniently located on the inside of the receiver against the freeper's neck making it nearly impossible to become dislodged.

Effective Range - Delivers stimulation at 400 plus yards

Rechargeable NiMH Batteries - Hold a charge for a week or more with every day use

One Charger System - Charges both the trainer's transmitter and the freeper's collar

Freeper Keeper 175NCP Remote Trainer Kit includes: Collar with small receiver, transmitter with lanyard, charger, instruction booklet.
