New sign at the edge of town: 'Welcome to Reagan Country'
Thanks to local Republicans, drivers entering Hollister on Highway 25 are now greeted by the smiling face of Ronald Reagan.

The sign that's 4 feet high and 7 1/2 feet wide sits on the property of Richard Hershey, owner of the Body Shop, who erected it with the help of county Republican Chairman Marvin Jones and an anonymous donor. The sign declares, "Welcome to Reagan Country," and is credited to the San Benito County Republican Party.

<snip>

Reagan deserves to be ranked as one of the greatest American presidents, perhaps the greatest, for "winning the Cold War without firing a shot" and "restoring some pride in our country," Jones said. Hershey added that Reagan deserves particular credit for being a man of strong moral convictions.

"He wasn't listening to Congress or the Senate - he was listening to God," Hershey said.

Incidentally, Marvin Jones was charged with assault on a business owner a few months ago. When she complained that the pro-war signs he was holding (to counter the Women In Black silent protest across the street) were blocking her storefront, he shoved her into the wall.

You can't imagine how happy I am to be moving soon from this dogforsaken hellhole.

2. On my way out of town, I'd be out with a Magic Marker at 4 AM
and the sign would be "Welcome to Reagan was an asshole Country.

But that's just me. I've been known to be juvenile from time to time.

9. No, He wasn't a great president. He killed labor in this country,
invented homelessness as we know it, exported torture and engaged in proxy wars that killed hundred of thousands of people all over the world.

That's our St. Ronnie, murderer, torturer, anti-American criminal.

8. Puke
they renamed one of the local elementary schools Ronald Reagan Elementary. Thankfully it's not one my kids went to or I'd have had to take advantage of open enrollment.
