Hutton Gibson, father of actor Mel Gibson, has endorsed Rep. Ron Paul (R., Texas) for president. “I intend to tell my 10 children and my 48 grandchildren that the only way to save the country is to vote for Ron Paul in 2008,” says Gibson, who appears in the video endorsement sitting on a sofa wearing a “Legalize Freedom” t-shirt.

Gibson’s endorsement is featured on www.voteronpaul.com, an unaffiliated website promoting Paul’s candidacy. Campaigns like endorsements from notable people, but Gibson’s notoriety leans toward the controversial side and — like son, like father — has stirred up a storm or two.

Aside from being Mel’s dad, the 89-year-old World War II vet is best known for statements he’s made questioning the Holocaust and advocating for a stricter form of Catholicism. Other video endorsements featured on the site include those of the former mayor of Middleburgh, N.Y., Gary Hayes, and businessman and financial analyst Peter Schiff.

and just by the way, I've never understood people who deny the holocaust happened. It obviously did and is provable. I think about 6 million Jews and millions of others, including Gypsies, homosexuals, and political prisoners, were systematically tortured and killed. That is horrible, its what I would think is undeniable, has overwhelming evidence, etc.

Most Ron Paulers I know are not holocaust deniers, but rather, disgruntled Republicans that do not recognize our country any more....just like us. The difference is that they will never vote for a Democrat and still adhere to their economic Darwinism with white knuckles. I can at least talk to a Ron Paul supporter.

But I understand...he's a Republican, so we pour our hate upon him and associate him with every dirtbag we can. Evn if Paul neither sought nor embraces such an endorsement.

13. You Know, It's a Funny Thing, Though

Until he started bringing in money, and getting good reaction from Republicans in the Republican debates, he was spoken well of on DU (always with a grain of sand, due to the aspects of his politics that few, if any, DUers could be okay with).

Now, all the sudden, not one kind word about Paul is allowed to remain unmolested. And even if no one had much to say, well, there're enough "if you like Ron Paul you like a fascist racist" threads that one would imagine are crafted with the intention (whether consciously or no) of stopping anyone from doing so before they started.

I'd like to agree about the two minute hate thing, but the Repukes haven't even gotten to Iowa yet and won't for a couple of months.

Back when we counted on him to be some kind of anti-war voice over on the other side of the aisle. But you see...he decided to run for president.

Personally, I hope to god Paul gets the Republican nomination. At least that represents some kind of change in direction from all-out fascism.

But I call it Two Minutes Hate because it is so reactionary, knee-jerk, and stereotyped. Throw a tomato at the Republican for a dollar. It is expected on DU now that campaign season is here. But I find such behavior to be tribal and unmoving.

After a seven day trial on February 14, 1968, the jury awarded him $145,000.... The family moved when Gibson was twelve. The move to Hutton's mother's native Australia was for economic reasons and because he thought the Australian military would reject his oldest son for the Vietnam War draft.

Gibson attended St. Leo's Catholic College in Wahroonga, New South Wales during his High School years.

Film career
