Tancredo's new TV ad sounds Awesome!
I mean it. I'd be totally into this sort of ad if it was, say, a movie or an episode of '24'.

Tancredo immigration ad hits terrorism

The Tancredo ad begins with the image of a gloved hand jamming a bomb into a backpack, then follows a hooded figure, whose face cannot be seen, strolling through a mall as a narrator decries "20 million aliens who have come to take our jobs" and "Islamic terrorists (who) now freely roam U.S. soil." Images of bombed-out trains and a bloodied boy follow, then pictures of shoppers and a woman pushing a baby carriage through an airy mall. As the hooded figure leaves the backpack beside a bench and walks away, the narrator announces — "The price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to kill" — just before the explosion sounds.

Way to go, Tombo! As we all know, all the other candidates are in favor of terrorists killing Americans. And, as we all know, most terrorists do their evil work while disguised as illegal immigrants. Maybe you don't know this, because those liberals at ABC and Fox News are always covering it up, but most of hte 9-11 hijackers were waved onto the planes past security because they were dressed like gardeners and housing contractors. The FBI now believes that one flight was commandeered not by box cutters, but by leaf blowers. Those bastards.

but now only Tom Tancredo has the ballls to stand up to the powerful illegal alien lobby (a.k.a. "Big Nanny") and tell it like it is!

Go get 'em, Tom! Don't let up until your full 15 minutes are over with!

They're comparing it it to other classic fearmongering ads by Republicans - a Santorum one in that post, and another from Vernon Robinson: http://www.sadlyno.com/archives/7838.html

2. This will be an effective ad - I'm not being facetious. Playing on fears garners
results.

This will become a bigger issue in this campaign - Dems need to be prepared.

(Listen to me -- offering my opinion as fact when I actually don't have any idea if this will be the case or not!)

5. Denver area media are reporting on some outrage
around this ad. It's sensationalism and fear-mongering are being pointed out.

4. What? No babies with explosives crammed into their mouths?
No little old ladies packin' nukes up their skirts?

I guess he's saving those ads for later... :eyes:

7. Of course it is. Just go down there and count all the guys in ski masks with bulky tote bags.
They hate us for our freedoms. The Republicans, I mean.

8. I saw it,
and almost died laughing when "Morning Joe S." compared it to the infamous daisy commercial from 1964.

9. This moran apparently does not realize that his own party
would be considered responsible for this state of affairs at this point.

Yeah, right, the immigrants cause all the problems. They just make the best scapegoats. They can't vote (in spite of assertions they do). They are ripe to be considered sub-humans.

Comparing this asshole to Hitler is perfectly fair. He knows that to gain the power he wants, he needs a demonized group that he can get people to accept as sub-human.

Only the kool-aid drinkers aren't tired of blaming everything on the immigrants and pretending to be in fear of them.

11. Wow...
I always say that the phrase least likely to be used by contemporary American Republicans is "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." (Just as the phrase least likely to be used by New Labour in Britain is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.")

Their message seems to be one long "FEAR! FEAR! FEAR! HIT THE PANIC BUTTON NOW!!!"

Thanks for reminding me of Vernon Robinson - I remember him coming up here last year. He sounds even worse than Jesse Helms. Are all North Carolina Republicans criminally insane? Or is it just all Republicans?

12. An Open Apology to America and the World
I cannot tell you how embarrassing it is to have to admit that Tom Tancredo is MY congressman.

On behalf of all Democrats, and other people of good will, living in Colorado's 6th Congressional District, I apologize to America, and the World.

Krash

14. "Awesome!" I Don't Think So.
I looked at that vile, xenophobic ad.

It appeals to one thing.

Fear.

It's a terrible ad.

15. A politician's best friend is the bogeyman he carries in his pocket.
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” H.L. Mencken
