I wrote this on a thread re: religion and politics...

"I'm afraid my political bent is based on and determined by my faith. If it wasn't, I'd probably still be a Republican to this day..."

Although I emphatically stated that the example was directed at myself, myself only, and no one else, there were many posters who thought I was applying that to anyone who lacks faith and demanded an apology from me.

I'm afraid I can't do that simply because I cannot apologize for someone else inferring incorrectly what I wrote.

Some posters inferred that I intended something to the effect of "without faith in God, one can have no morals", and that is simply a wrong translation of what I wrote. As a matter of fact, I made a point to state that it applied to me and to me alone.

Since many posters took offense for their same inference, rather than replying to each one, this is a general reply.

Although I can say that I'm sorry that intentions were attributed to me that are not mine (and I do), I certainly cannot (and will not) apologize for it.

Insults are an odd thing-- they may be found anywhere you look for them, even in places where they do not exist.

O-k. That's all-- now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.... :)

1. Also from that thread, I am profoundly sorry for you.
Your Humanism is based only on the strictures of a "Religion," and does not arise from the logical view of doing the right thing for its own sake. You make your religion sound like a goad or a threat, and that cannot be pleasant, because as you state, you deny your true nature.

This is not sarcasm. If you truly feel as you state, I do feel for you. If on the other hand, your religion opened your eyes to your selfishness and greedy nature as you stated it, then your conversion is good, but only if now you would feel the same if your religion was shown to be in error. If not, then we are back to using religion as a whip, rather than a tool for teaching.

Added: if FOR YOU, Without GOD you have no morals, then your conversion is worthless as your heart has not changed, and you are wasting your time adhering to your faith.

From Hamlet, Act 3, Scene III:

KING CLAUDIUS
My words fly up, my thoughts remain below:
Words without thoughts never to heaven go.
