Subject: Infant Mortality
The AP report is old news. In fact, I had noted in August that I thought the timing of the CDC report was interesting, in that the WHO releases the statistics for the previous year in September and that the government might be hoping that the high US infant mortality rate would be "old news" when the 2006 statistics were released. Two things: that they're re-running this story is interesting. And the 2006 statistics still haven't been released. I've been following infant mortality for a long time and I don't remember the statistics not being released in September. Ever.

Is it possible that the stats are worse? I don't know, but it's likely that the WHO would re-compute the stats if they were. Ya don't want to make a mistake on something like this.

It should be noted that the statistics for 2005 were released last year. This report is working off the 2004 numbers. (The US numbers didn't change.)

How bad are the numbers this year?
