I was recently given a transcript of the Red Eye Show on Fox News. I thought it must be a parody, but astoundingly it is not.

On a recent segment in which the panelists discussed the death penalty, Bill Schulz, the producer, said, “We should kill all liberals.” I do recognize the comment as a jest. Can you imagine the explosive right-wing reaction if a liberal commentator joked all conservatives should be killed? Schulz’s comment, however, will pass unchallenged.

The sheer glee at taking the life of fellow humans was horrific enough. The declaration that some are worthy of fates worse than death expressed as a forced sexual act involving two prominent liberal females exceeded the bounds of good taste by anyone’s standards.

Their audience tunes in precisely because the banter is extremist and therefore entertaining although completely unenlightening. I find the existence of an audience for this show more depressing than the shrill content.

They will likely never appreciate the irony that the liberals they wish to destroy are the very people struggling to protect the right to utter such malevolent hyperbole. When will all this divisiveness end?
