1. GM/FORD/Chrsyler will be dead at the rate we're going.
Gas is getting more expensive and they are still making gas guzzling tinderboxes.

2. You should ask the Democratic Leadership
They're the ones who hire psychic consultants to tell them what the future outcome of things will be.

Sorry, not snarking at you. I think we'll be in the $5 range, if not higher. It's a sure bet we've seen the last of $35/barrel.

4. Unfortunately, if you live in the suburbs or far away from work, you're screwed.
Because American infrastructure is built around the car. It's not built around people, and there is no real mass transit infrastructure that doesn't pass being called dilapidated or extremely inadequate outside of urban centers. Extremely high gas prices will limit car travel to people who can afford it: Upper middle class to the ultra-rich.

Everybody else will be stranded.

5. carpools. it will force a broader sense of "community" to the subdivisions.
and even if a community doesn';t have much mass transit- look for individuals with vans/busses to fill the need.

6. Those moped like things are awesome.
I forget where I saw it but they were called like Bajar's or something like that, they are legal on the streets in the USA but not freeway. They get the same milage as a moped more or less.

I told my ex once that I was going to buy a fleet of them and start an inner city taxi service called Calcutta Taxi. Obviously I never did that, although they are only about 7000 a unit.
