Peacemakers target Hillary and Giuliani today
This activism is cross posted from the Young Adult Board at the DesMoinesRegister.com. Great to see young folks involved with taking our country back!

Power to the Peace Makers! :applause:

Dozens of peace activists from across the Midwest, led by two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Kathy Kelly, will converge in Des Moines, Iowa today to occupy the campaign offices of Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani and demand an end to the so-called war on terrorism.

“It’s very important to insert the issues surrounding the war into the presidential election process,” Kelly said during a speech in Des Moines last night.

“We can’t expect the presidential candidates to take risks if we won’t take risks.”

Kelly recently visited an Iraqi refugee camp in Amman, Jordan. Her letters from Amman may be read here.

Kelly is perhaps best known for smuggling badly-needed medical supplies into Iraq during the U.S. economic embargo and sanctions of the 1990s. She was fined $163,000 by the federal government for her humanitarian civil disobedience, a bill she refuses to pay to this day.

The occupations scheduled for today were organized by the Des Moines Catholic Worker and Kelly’s organization, Voices for Creative Nonviolence. The campaign is called Seasons of Discontent: A Presidential Occupation Project (SODaPOP).
