3. She was bullied mercilessly by her home town
Just before her death she was looking forward to returning "home" to show up the bullies. Problem was, they were still bullies, they didn't care about her talent.

7. My gawd. What a completely loveable person!
She was completely open and real. So different from the dimbulbs we're cursed with today.

6. The best thing for a bully to see is a fist in his face.
Seriously, people will only pick on you for as long as you let them. Fuck someone up and it's not quite as fun anymore.

8. I hold the same belief (beat a bully down)
But I respect those more peaceful than myself, those who can't for what ever reason do the same as I would do.

In the case of Janis, you can't beat-up an entire community and their backward beliefs. She really thought that she was going to show them by going back as a huge success; thought that they would be humbled--that wasn't the way it worked. And she is dead and we are poorer for it. Her voice still touches me to my core.

10. Well she did mock them on the Tonight Show.
My mother related the story to me, so at least she got to say it on TV. She did have a great voice, such power and soul. I seriously doubt she or many of the great bands of that era would make it today. Too much substance and not enough style. Janis for all her talent was not the most attractive of women, it would be really hard to sell her to today's vacuous audience.
