Conservatives to Bush: Issue More Executive Orders

With President Bush unable to get much traction so far in moving his agenda through Congress or in improving his job-approval ratings with the public, White House advisers are casting about for ways to jump-start his final two years, including issuing executive orders to get things done without having to ask for support from the Democratic-controlled Congress.

"He should get a list of the executive orders for the last 200 years, as a guide, and choose what he wants to do," says an informal Bush adviser. One proposal that fiscal conservatives are pushing is to halve all capital-gains taxes, as a way to encourage investment and job creation.

Some conservatives argue that even if Bush somehow regains his political footing, whatever he might work out with the Democratic majority in Congress wouldn't be very good legislation, so he should go the executive-order route and bypass Congress altogether.

Bill Moyers had an excellent program a few years ago about NCLB, basically Bush went around congress and got $75 million for some homeschooling companies, one of the biggest recipients was William "Slots Czar" Bennett"

These people are loyal to their party, not their Nation, like the brownshirts. They want to rewrite or erase the Constitution so that the corporate cabal can gain complete control. These people are un-American and working to destroy the USA. It is time that we recognize them as enemies of our democracy.

The 30% that still support Bush and his anti-American policies are like the brownshirts of Germany. Most Americans are not like that. Maybe you should run with a different crowd. Look at DU and all the condemnation of Dems. That is a healthy thing. If Dems started an unjust war, you bet your ass I would not support them.

That'd be easy, compared to combing through those he himself has signed:

"Bush has used signing statements to challenge 1,149 laws that were contained in 150 bills, according to data compiled by Christopher Kelley, a political science professor at Miami University in Ohio. By comparison, all previous presidents combined challenged about 600 total laws."

"non-binding" resolutions and keeping impeachment "off the table". The American people are too wrapped up in 'American Idol' and Anna Nicole Smith. Meanwhile, we have fascists in the Oval Office, no checks and balances, and our country, Constitution, Bill of Rights and Democracy are going down the toilet.

That approach has the added benefit of allowing Repuke Congress critters to avoid going on record with their votes. After all, if they were never even asked to vote on an issue, their constituents can't hold them accountable for how they voted.

"Ok, so bush gets ____ powers to do ______. He's out of office in January 2009. Those powers and actions have set a precedent. Considering the current political climate - it's likely the next president will be a Democrat - are you sure you want those kind of powers in the hands of a Democrat, like say - Hillary Clinton?"

It usually pulls the reich-wingers up by the shorthairs and the response is something along the lines of "that's different"

when pressed to explain how it is "different" - the subject quickly changes
