how about drawing and quartering? Hanging by the toenails? Burning at the stake?

And why the hell does Schumer think he can trust these assholes at their word anyway?...:banghead:

1. Wouldn't matter...
Bush would simply issue a signing statement authorizing such practices at the discretion of the President. :-(

10. Or use a knitting needle.
Itemizing what is torture is idiocy. They will just find uncategorized methods. Here is a clue: the state cannot be permitted to coerce testimony from those it has detained. Nor can the state be permitted to detain people secretly, detain without charges, or detain without a right to legal representation. These are fundamental human rights.

3. It's the "Come Home, Dear, All is Forgiven" aspect. That's what drives it.
Bush is digging in on this, because he has no desire to see a shitload of his underlings charged with being torturers. If the Congress get to the point of passing a law, well, FROM THAT DAY FORWARD waterboarding will be illegal. The law won't be RETROACTIVE.

That's what this is about. No one will be able to punish anyone, because at the TIME, it wasn't illegal. So they'll be able to come home, and be forgiven.

You have to seatbelt your kids now, but no one is going after those parents who didn't so do in the sixties!!

9. Oh, they've been stamped TOP SECRET, and will be forever classified
because they have potential to do GRAVE DAMAGE to America's National Security Interests, I'm sure. And they'll never be declassified.

That is, if they haven't already "lost the box"--oh, gee, it musta gotten misfiled or something--and ended up going up in flames in the chiminea in Tenet's backyard, or what-have-you.

5. "They shove a living snake up your ass!!"
Roman Officer: Do you know the penalty for a slave that strikes a Roman citizen?

Roman Officer: Ok, you. You had your hand up first.
Man in crowd: Death by torture!
Roman Officer: No. You.
Man in crowd: Crucifixion!
Roman Officer: No. You.
Man in crowd: They shove a living snake up your ass!
Roman Officer: Ah, no... but that's very creative.

7. Be sure to pass the Barney Fife Amendment
That is, "The first law . . . is to obey all laws." See, otherwise, the Bush administration would acknowledge that yes, such a law exists, in theory, but since the law itself doesn't say that it should be obeyed or that it applies to this corrupt administration, then it doesn't really constrain the administration's behavior.

You have to think like an eight-year-old testing a new babysitter to understand this administration.
