Lynn Woolsey Statement on Resolution to Impeach Vice President Cheney
Woolsey Statement on Resolution to Impeach Vice President Cheney
November 6, 2007

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, the Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive, today released the following statement following the introduction by Congressman Dennis Kucinich of a privileged resolution to bring articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. Woolsey is a co-sponsor of Kucinich’s original legislation, H. Res. 333.

“From the potentially manipulated intelligence that led us to war against Iraq, to his role in the outing of a covert CIA officer, Vice-President Cheney has at best operated in the gray area of the law during his time in office. That’s why I believe that the Congress owes it to the American public to undertake a full and thorough investigation into the allegations against him.

“I strongly believe this is a debate that the Congress must undertake, which is why I voted in favor of allowing the resolution to come up for a vote. However, realizing that the first step of any investigation must begin in the House Judiciary Committee, led by my friend Chairman John Conyers, I voted to send the legislation to committee.

“By deciding to send the legislation to the Judiciary Committee, instead of forcing an immediate vote, we are allowing for a process of oversight hearings that will shed light into the Vice President’s actions. We also ensured that this movement didn’t face a certain death on the House floor, where it would only have been guaranteed 30 minutes of debate on each side, ensuring its failure and ending any possibility of impeachment.

“The Vice President has a lot to answer for, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to ensure that we hold him accountable.”

7. Could you imagine somebody like Lynn as Speaker?
She's not very outspoken, never obnoxious, so maybe they could change the title to Leader of the House.

But this smelly, crowded place that is mean to poor people is home so I'll just have to be Lynn's stepkid. :)

8. Good, good, good. I have a good feeling about this.
I'm glad she gave a simple explanation. H. Res. 333 could have been a dead end. But it's alive.

Today was a very telling day. I had a personal indication that this is going to turn into something big. Literally less than 30 seconds after the final vote tally, I had a massive transaction take place. It was something I've been working toward since the moments when the 2000 election started down it's convoluted path. And every turn along the way, my personal journey toward this goal has paralleled it. I just think it's too weird to pass off as mere coincidence. Today was special.

10. This is what should be done...
Investigation and brought to the light of day, every single solitary filthy scheme this person has done. How he has screwed this great country of ours. From the enegry commission to with holding all the emails and papers. And most of all sending us into this spiral of war and terror, so he could steal Iraqi oil. The no bid Halliburton contracts. The outing of an undercover CIA agent. Damn there is so much he should be held accountable for. I really can't remember all of them.

13. Sending it to committee so it can be killed there. Really powerful courage, Lynn...
Anyone care to bet that any resolution sent to committee will come out alive? That's a safe bet I'm willing to make. This is a procedural CYA move by Woolsey to appear strong with the base while still sucking up to the DINO/enabler dems.

19. Don't bet on it. Conyers has proven to be "all bark and no bite"...as much of the Dem leadership.
2006 elections were a farce for anyone expecting a substantial turn-around in the criminal direction our country is taking. Some Dem leaders are just giving us lip service to placate us enough into not completely abandoning the party.

Are we seeing a pattern here? Is there a plan afoot?

What's that distant light? Is that a Judiciary Committee investigation coming down the tracks?
