Conyers Re Impeachment Oct 23rd ----- "I really want you to convince me to do this."
From
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/28462

When I expressed dismay with Speaker Pelosi's leadership and asserted that, in my opinion, she had castrated the Democratic party by taking impeachment off the table, Congressman Conyers said "well, maybe we should get new leadership." As we were leaving the meeting room, on our way to a filming for BET, we were again discussing bringing forward H Res 333 and the Congressman turned to me and said, "I really want you to convince me to do this."

When we arrived at the location for the filming, Rep. Maxine Waters was coming out of the room and Mr. Conyers stopped her and introduced me to her saying "This is Jennifer and she's here to lobby me on impeachment." To which Rep. Waters instantly replied, "it's never going to happen." She then said, "I wish I could tell you something that would give you some hope, but I can't." I said to her, "Then maybe I can say something that will give you some hope," and launched into a quick lobbying effort. I asked Rep. Waters if I could walk with her to her office, and we subsequently spent the next 5 minutes debating the "practicalities" of impeachment. (How impractical to defend the Constitution!) She seemed most moved by the argument that the Democrats are in danger of blowing the 2008 elections if decisive actions aren't taken to show the electorate that the Democratic party is interested in change.

That doesn't sound dead to me...

Sounds like a challenge....

2. Remember Maxine was the one who said "I don't CARE if it isn't signed
by a Senator". That woman is a fighter -- I can't imagine her response being anything more than a kind of "show me the money" challenge (like "you give me 1M signatures, then I'll introduce it").

10. The Democratic candidates should join DK today in support. The only way to stop this madness
is to get the Vulcans out of power and if impeachment is what it takes so be it. The facts are that we've been lied to OVER and OVER again and the Democratic leadership seems to like this diet of lies.

6. appeasers and enablers want it dead but us pissed off citizens are all for impeachment
its kind of funny in a sort of strange way that us who want to see impeachment can't even have our day when we truly won and need it without all the sky is falling type shit from the anti's. whats the deal with that. I asked someone earlier what they meant when they kept saying we're scewed but I haven't got an answer back on that yet.

13. It is indeed very very odd.... perhaps the "Sky-is-falling" brigade would like to chime in?
The argument that impeachement should not be pursued at all because it is embarassing to fail is laughably thin. How come the republicans tried to impeach Bill about the dress. Did all the TV coverage of those impeachment hearings help or hurt the GOP? How would a trial of Dick Cheney - possibly one of the most loathed figures in politics in a few generations - go down with the public. Would it hurt or help the Democratic Party?

7. Any democrat that doesn't want to look at impeachment is an appeaser
and no better than the criminals they are protecting.

11. Not only appeasers, but complicit as well
by not performing their duty in stopping the crimes and holding the criminals to account. Welcome to DU, HelenWheels!
