I'm as stunned and confused as the rest of you about what the fuck is going on. But consider this: Everyone hates Dick Cheney. Everyone except Lynne, and I'm even suspect about her. His approval rating is only slightly above that of jock itch. His quails are coming home to roost, and he's shot everyone in the face trying to round them up.

It's his history, read his bio. He has been hated since his school days. He's just an evil, nasty character and always has been. He's strong-armed and cajoled his way to where he is all throughout his career, not gotten there because of his merits. He's told colleagues on the Senate floor to "fuck off." He's just a vile excuse for a human being, and I think it's finally hitting the fan.

Even the Republicans know it. And they have elections coming up, too. They have to go home to their constituents very soon, as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, and they'll be bombarded with demands for an explanation as to why they refuse to call him into account. I think even for Republicans, they see little sense in continuing to back a Veep with a .32% approval rating.

Of course, I could be wrong. I'm willing to accept that we're totally being played. After all, we're Democrats. Republicans may be worth shit for anything else, but you gotta admit, they know how to play hardball politics way better then Democrats.

1. Yup... and those up for re-election will be wise to think of
in what ways they wish to distance themselves from the crook... as opposed to being seen as enabling him.

4. yep, some GOP'ers hate Cheney but not as much as they
love making fools of the dems.

Freepers are crowing over how the dems got trapped by the GOP on this vote.

5. Cheney's approval has been in the teens for a long time
because he's never had the fundies on his side. All he's ever had were the self consciously macho and the greedy and even the greedy are starting to turn.

However, the only ways this impeachment can succeed are if the illegal attorney firings, the railroading of the ex Governor into prison, or the "mistaken" transport of nuclear armed cruise missiles across country can be tied to him...or if Scooter can be squeezed until he starts to sing.

His fingerprints are all over all of the above. The only question is whether or not Congress can manage to discover where they've been left.

6. You may be stunned and confused
but the Democrats are being played, make no mistake. It may not succeed, but don't think for a minute that what you saw in the house today was the result of republicans suddenly having a change of heart about Mr. Cheney. Their plan is to make red state dems go on record as either being for impeachment, which they believe will hurt them in a general election, or against impeachment, which will hurt them with their base, all the while knowing that it won't put Cheney in any real danger. DK knew he didn't have the votes when he brought it to the floor. It was a political stunt, and the republicans are going to use it to their perceived advantage.

8. I don't disagree with you
I don't agree with you, either. Personally, I think we're being played. But I think the Republicans underestimate how much Dick Cheney is truly hated across all demographics. He has no positive virtues.
