CNN Poll: 69% Of Americans Say Waterboarding Is Torture

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A majority of Americans consider waterboarding a form of torture, but some of those say it's OK for the U.S. government to use the technique, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Michael Mukasey said waterboarding is repugnant, but he stopped short of saying it was torture.

Asked whether they think waterboarding is a form of torture, more than two-thirds of respondents, or 69 percent, said yes; 29 percent said no.

Asked whether they think the U.S. government should be allowed to use the procedure to try to get information from suspected terrorists, 58 percent said no; 40 percent said yes.

Many people can't see past the chaff shot up by the right wing spin machine on a daily basis. They're fed a constant stream of lies about everything; waterboarding-as-swimming is just the bullshit du jour.

8. Of the 69%, 11% think it's OK to torture!!
They need to read the article in today's WP. A POW in Vietnam was asked to write a propaganda letter which he refused to do. He was subjected to 20 days of sleep deprivation, then wrote the letter. Torture gets you information but it's not likely truthful information.

This country is so messed up with rovian, 1984, bs.

9. Only 69%???
Ayeeeee, what have we become here? We have much to do. Humanity is taking a back seat to both fear and political expediency. We are ass backwards and have been getting that way for a long time. It is long past time to reevaluate our school curriculum, spend more time with our kids (meaning not having to work 60+ hours a week), and work towards raising our consciences. Those are only a few things I can think of quickly and off hand.

That number scares me.
