Militants seize Pakistani town
Hundreds of Islamic militants seized a town in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday after outnumbered security forces laid down their arms, militants and police said.

About two dozen police officers and several troops offered no resistance to militants who seized three police stations and a military post in and around Matta, a town in the Swat valley.

"We didn't harm the police and soldiers and allowed them to go to their homes as they didn't fight our mujahideen," said Sirajuddin, a spokesman for Maulana Fazlullah, a firebrand cleric whose armed followers are battling security forces.

Bhutto sceptical about Musharraf's ability to control nukes:

Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has cast doubts on Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's ability to prevent extremists from getting hold of the country's nuclear arsenal.

"General Musharraf says that he is in firm control of the nuclear arsenal and the army is a very disciplined army but we have been facing chaos, growing chaos for some time", the former Pakistan prime minister said.

"What happens in Pakistan will affect the lives of the people of Pakistan. But I am afraid that since Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country (and that it) is facing a threat from a radicalisation and terrorists, whatever happens in Pakistan is also going to impact the rest of the world...", Bhutto told CNN on Monday.

1. This could really get serious if the militants get control of the nukes
India might just decide to stage a preemptive strike to prevent that. We could wake up to nuclear war any day now.

The crap is hitting the fan and I don't think people in this country realize just how bad the situation is.

2. True that
Shouldn't our diplomats be deployed in force to both countries at this point? Never mind. I'll just cross my fingers, it would be more effective.
