Has America died under the Bush administration?
The neofascist underpinnings allowing torture? The virtual suspension of habeus corpus? The pseudo-acknowledgment of the presidency as a separate and defining branch of government?

Dear god, what has happened to my country?

They out their own spies, they steal elections, they go to war on falsified reasons...

We've been hijacked, people!

19. The older you get, the more optimistic you get. We've been down this road before.
There was a time when people were blacklisted, patriotism was mandated, and people were afraid. Kids were told to cower under their desks every week. The boogeyman back then was a nuke from the scary Russkies.

We survived. We'll survive this Crawford Caligula Cowboy as well.

The clean up is gonna be interesting, certainly...

13. I have to agree in a minor way because so much leadership -- thru which the people speak ---
has been taken from us --- intimidated --- frightened ---

The people cannot speak enmasse --- the words have to come from someone's mouth ---

I'll say again, we have to recognize what a courageous thing Naomi Wolf has done with her book and her speeches!!!

Certainly there's cause for concern, but I say let's wait until after the 2008 election to decide whether she's gone for good.

11. * SIGH *
That's why we needed a hardcore Democrat to go after George W. Bush, and hard, in 2004. Now look at the mess that we're left with.

Don't get me wrong. I worked harder for the Kerry campaign than I ever have for any other Presidential candidate. But the man choked when he needed to charge forward, and in the end Karl Rove and those electronic voting machines ate Kerry's lunch.

12. No, not yet.
No more than Germany "died" during Hitler's reign
No more than Japan "died" during its fascist takeover

I listen to the voices of my elders, like my Mom, who was born in Japanese-occupied Manchuria and subsequently lived through the Korean War and the corrupt U.S.-backed regimes that ran South Korea for years: These things too shall pass. It's whilst you're in the middle of it that it's difficult to imagine anything better.

Our policy is about to be canceled, the mortgage is due, and the car just rolled over and died. Oh yeah, and the price of Ramen noodles is a little beyond our food budget.

40. Sorry, but it's now too late.
The die is cast and our only option is to try to ride it out. I am too old to be patient with the previously brain-dead that have brought us to this precipice.

Now my efforts are to get as far away as possible before the inevitable collapse. These last minute revelations are of no benefit.

to know what was really going on. Someone who would approve anything the Dark One wanted to do. Someone who could be led by the nose. The Psycho fit the bill perfectly.

ASS helping him every step of the way. They're still funding his illegal invasion, they passed the horrendous FISA Bill, and now they're approving his illegal TORTURE techniques! We are so screwed.

32. Yes, but...
America was never a place, it was a shared dream and sometimes, dreams die.

But with enough belief, passion, guts and determination, we can dream a new dream. Out of destruction comes change and out of change, growth. We are currently in the destruction phase and it is heartrending but the wheel turns and nothing lasts forever. Even in it's previous incarnation, the US had big problems and the fact that W was able to do what he has done mostly legally has illustrated those. In the rebuilding that will be necessary as you move forward, those problems can be addressed. Shameful and horrifying at it was, the past gives way to the future.

This round is lost but chin up, stiff upper lip. New round starts tomorrow.
