Tony Snow: I'm Not Sure Anything Went Wrong In Iraq .
NEW YORK Surely, at this stage, the White House would be willing to admit that conditions in Iraq following the 2003 invasion haven't gone exactly according to plan? White House Press Secretary Tony Snow was asked about this today at the daily briefing, following the release of military documents from 2002 that revealed that the U.S. expected that a token American force of 5,000 would be able to keep things under control in Iraq.

"What went wrong?" the reporter reasonably asked.

Snow replied: "I'm not sure anything went wrong."

He elaborated: "At the beginning of the Civil War, people thought it would all be over at Manassas. It is very difficult -- no, Jessica, the fact is, a war is a big, complex thing. And what you're talking about is a 2002 assessment. We're now in the year 2007, and it is well-known by anybody who has studied any war that war plans immediately become moot upon the first contact with the enemy.

"For instance, a lot of people did not think that we would have the success we had moving swiftly into Baghdad. All I'm saying is that -- what happens is, you're looking at a pre-war assessment, and there have been constant assessments ever since. A war is not a situation where you can sit down and neatly predict what exactly is going to happen. You make your best estimates, but you also understand that there are going to continue to be challenges, there are going to be things that you don't anticipate, there are going to be things that the enemy doesn't anticipate. And the most important task, frankly, is to continue to try to assess near-term and mid-term to figure out how best to address the situation."

8. I predicted it. Lots of people predicted it.
We even wrote about it and put it in print. We knew racing across the desert would be nothing. We knew taking Baghdad would be nothing (I mean - did anyone but ME see those pathetic old men running around the city with some old rifles?)

We also predicted the chaos we see today.

So what the hell Tony? Just how stupid are you people?

And pretty soon it will be 6 years. Snow isn't converting anybody to his way of thinking. THe ship is sinking.

23. Scotty had obvious "tells" when lying - Snow doesn't
of course, Snow is lying 100% of the time, so we're really not sure if he's exhibiting any "tells" or not.

21. "I'm not sure anything went wrong" - WTF?!
You're "not sure anything went wrong," Tony? Well, I am. I'm damn sure that there's very little RIGHT about 3,133 dead U.S. soldiers, at least 23,530 more wounded, and tens and possibly hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead or wounded in this ridiculous war. Saddam Hussein =/= Al Qaeda, there were no WMDs, and thousands of people have died or have been seriously injured because of LIES. I'm pretty damn sure a LOT went wrong. :grr:

27. I'd love to just slap the smirk off Snow's face.
Somehow he seems to think everything is just one big funny video war-game where real people are not getting killed and maimed. His attitude reflects the mind-set of his bosses.

35. Oh for Jeebus' sake.
it is well-known by anybody who has studied any war that war plans immediately become moot upon the first contact with the enemy.

It's also well known to anybody who has studied any war that that phrase stands as a warning against OVERLY OPTIMISTIC PLANNING.

36. Depends on the pre-war assessment
No plan may survive contact with the enemy, but it sure helps to have an actual plan that's more involved than, "We'll liberate the country and everything will fall into place."
