Ex-Marine convicted of killing wife in Orange County

A retired Marine sergeant was found guilty of killing his wife after discovering she wanted to leave him for another man.

An Orange County jury returned the verdict Thursday against 50-year-old James Herbert Speights.

Prosecutors say Speights tortured his wife, Jeselinda Zill, with a stun gun in their Irvine apartment before strangling her with a plastic tie in 2004.

Officials say the ex-Marine was arrested after he confessed to a Riverside pastor, who then called police.
