IMO, SNL w/ host Brian Williams was
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 11:23 AM by Texas Explorer
one of the best SNLs in a long time.

I've enjoyed him on John Stewart and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

I might go so far as to say that he could have a career in comedy if there didn't exist the caveat that his humor, so far, is derived from who he is.

But who is he really?

From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3667173/">his bio at MSNBC.com:

-snip-

Prior to his broadcasting career, Williams worked in the White House during the Carter administration, beginning as a White House intern. He later worked as assistant administrator of the political action committee of the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington. A native of both Elmira, NY and Middletown, N.J., Williams is particularly proud of his several years of service as a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey.

Williams is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. He has lectured at Columbia University School of Journalism and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. He attended George Washington University and the Catholic University of America, both in Washington, and is the recipient of six honorary Doctorates. He and his wife, Jane Stoddard Williams, have two children.

1. I was plesantly surprised myself. I loved the skit with him throwing
an egg on the Today Show and Matt Lauer turning around and asking who the asshole is throwing the eggs.

2. I see no problem with Williams. It's Tim Russert who is a right wing tool.

3. He did really well.
He pretty much played an exaggerated version of himself, but it worked. A lot of people "try" to act and fall flat.

6. I was predisposed not to enjoy it.
He overcame my predisposition.

He was quite funny and was as good as any average host they have.

I still would prefer Olbermann had his job, however.

7. Hasn't he been quoted as saying his bestest buddy is Rush Limbaugh?
I remember reading it somewhere - no link or anything, just memory.

8. When he got the gig after Brokaw...
he said some outlandishly flattering comments re: Limbaugh. I'm convinced, however, that he said this to deflect RW antagonism towards him--probably on the request/orders of NBC brass.

9. I haven't heard that.
And I don't have much faith in anyone's memory about such things- even my own.

15. He claimed that he listens to the show
I see nothing wrong with that. Perhaps he's trying to gauge what's going on in the political media. If that's the case, he's doing his job, though I hope he doesn't waste three hours a day on that shit.

If he listens because he's a dittohead, well...
