CNN Out of Holy(?) Land
CNN OUT OF HOLY LAND
By DON KAPLAN

November 2, 2007 -- THE largest cable system in Israel has dropped CNN.

HOT yanked CNN off the air early yesterday in a dispute over how much CNN was charging to carry the news channel.

The cable system replaced CNN with Fox News Channel when it could not come to an agreement.

The cable operator, which covers more than half of Israeli homes, will effectively bar CNN from much of the country.

In Israel, CNN is regularly slammed for its international coverage, which critics call anti-Israeli.

I had never noticed that CNN was anti-Israel.     But if so -- Whooopeeee !

"Late night, HOT issued an ultimatum to Turner and demanded a 30 percent reduction immediately and said it did not wish to honor the 10-day extension requested by the Knesset. Turner said it could not accept such an ultimatum."

I have always admired Ted Turner.     But never more than today.

1. Very sad.
It is very sad Israel is losing a news source, but even sadder that you support a new source being "anti-Israeli."

4. I think "whoopee" means "who cares?" or "big deal!"
So, you're misrepresenting the OP in that, I believe.

6. I will wait for the OP to clarify.
"Whoopiee" generally implies excitement, unless he was being sarcastic, but given his follow up praise of Ted Turner, I doubt it was sarcasm. I guess we will have to wait for the OP to clear up the confusion. However, I would expect a similar post on right-wing sites except they would read....

"I had never noticed that FOX was anti-Iran. But if so -- Whooopeeee !
I have always admired Rupert Murdoch. But never more than today."

7. Here's an example for you:
Man: "Hey, I got tickets to the car show!"
Woman (spinning finger in air and rolling eyes sarcasticly) "Whoopie!"

8. And yet the OP didn't include any of those things.
It is you, who is basing an opinion on things not there, as opposed to me, who is basing things that are there.

14. There is more than example of common usage.
However, the point is moot as the OP has explained he meant it to indicate "who gives a shit."

3. 1) CNN sucks ass. 2) Ted Turner Has Nothing to do with it, anymore, that's one big reason it sucks.

3) Israelis probably noticed that it sucks ass. I'm sure they don't need fifty stories a day on Lindsay Lohan's coke bust. Better to give that slot over to the Discovery Channel, or something interesting.

4) "Whooopeee"- care to elaborate?

5. Info Is From The New York Post... Therein Lies The Problem...
But...

<snip>

As soon as he arrived at Beit Hanassi in Jerusalem, Turner was asked his opinion about CNN being dropped by HOT cable television.

Turner said he hadn't been with CNN in a long time, although he was still emotionally attached and watched it frequently, and had no say in what goes on. It would be "a sad thing" if CNN was taken off the air in Israel, he said.

Asked by The Jerusalem Post whether he had come to invite Peres to join the board of the UN Foundation, which was established in 1998 with his billion-dollar gift, Turner said the foundation was not a membership organization, "but we'd love to have him if he'd like to join us."

11. I'm pretty sure that Israel gets CNN-I...which is nothing like the CNN we see here
I was astounded to watch CNN when we were in Tahiti.. It was like night & day from what WE are "offered" in the US..:grr:

I would like the CHOICE of CNN and/or CNN-I..I mean REALLY.. we ARE globalized now aren't we? That's what everyone keeps telling us :)

12. Fox News Has More Junk news than any other news station
If the Israeli's want it, let them have it.

I think the Israeli's will tire of it soon enough.

It's like being water boarded with maple syrup.

It's sweet at first, but then the taste soon becomes bitter.
