Advertisers Pull Out of Paper That Printed Same-Sex Marriage Notice
ST.LOUIS Three advertisers are pulling their business from a Warrensburg, Mo., newspaper and several readers are threatening to cancel their subscriptions after the publication of a same-sex engagement announcement.

For John Scott Jr., 29, and Elijah Davidson, 29, asking The Daily Star-Journal in Warrensburg to run a photo and announcement of their Nov. 13 commitment ceremony was all about equality.

"I want people to know that he makes me happy, and all we want is to be happy just like straight couples," Davidson, of Warrensburg, said during a telephone interview Wednesday from Warrensburg, which is in Johnson County, southeast of Kansas City. ...

"Your bold decision to promote this lifestyle is a flagrant attack on the traditional family God has instituted for us," wrote Bob Ingle, pastor of First Baptist Church in Warrensburg.

Two other readers, Jack and Serena Dillingham, wrote that the decision to run the announcement showed a "lack of respect for family values and a lack of concern for the unnatural lifestyle."

1. Good grief, these fucking Evangofascists are frightened by the most ridiculous things.
Holy shit, it must be really terrible to feel like you have to go through life in a constant snit over other people living their lives.

I've more than had it "up to here" with these whiny-assed, holier-than-thou, Wal Mart shopping little fundie freaks. I wish I could buy them all one-way tickets to the Creation Museum and let them rot there.

2. They're outnumbered.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, so long as the info keeps coming out. If three advertisers pull out of a paper because of same sex marriage notifications, I will be more likely to buy from the remaining advertisers in that paper so long as I know about it. And I am part of the majority that believes in a higher power, but I am not part of the 30% that supports this kind of shit. I am part of the 40% that is annoyed by that 30%

3. Damn, they don't tell us who the advertisers were...
be nice to know who they are, so that I can make sure they never get my business.

6. I don't understand bigots and their attacks on teh gays.
On the one hand they decry the so-called "homosexual lifestyle" of hook-ups and casual sex, but on the other hand when two gays want to get married, it's because they hate families.

10. They'll be back
I'd almost guarantee that these are local businesses, and they can't afford to not advertise in the local paper. It's been shown time after time that no other medium works as well.

The former subscribers will be back, too. They have no other way to get local news.
