This country is broken beyond repair.
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 08:25 PM by backscatter712
I give up.

We're betrayed, again. By members of our own party.

They've caved to Bush again, sacrificing our civil liberties and our way of life, and our soul, for political gain.

They've been bought. Democrat and Republican alike. All of them except a few. And it's easy to tell which haven't been bought - they're the ones who are getting shut out, just like we are.

For war. For profit. For death. For oil. For power.

And absolutely nothing will slake their thirst, and if anyone gets in their way, they'll kill them.

And in the end, they will not stop until we are all dead or enslaved. Even our Democratic Congressmen, who've betrayed us, will not escape this fate. They might as well enjoy their thirty pieces of silver while they can. Before Bush turns on them just for having a D next to their name. Anyone who's studied Machiavelli knows that traitors are not to be trusted, not even the ones you create.

So I give up.

I might as well start drinking, having sex. Something to forget. Enjoy the few good days we have left before night falls. Maybe think of escaping, maybe to New Zealand.

Because absolutely nothing I have done, or any of us have done has had any effect. The cancer is spreading, and has metastasized to all parts of our government. The prognosis is terminal.

The America I've known and loved is nearly dead. And I will have no place in the Amerika that replaces it.

I'm fresh out of hope.

2. Stay, get motivated, arm yourself, and run for public office
At least consider a run for precinct chair if nothing else.

And please consider buying an AK47 if it's legal to do so in your state. If nothing else, even if you never load or fire the rifle, your simple act of owning the AK47 will piss Feinstein and Schumer off to no end.

4. I've already got guns.
Didn't want to violate DU rules by mentioning what I have in mind for them. Assuming I don't come to my senses and leave this country while I still can.

As for running for office, I just don't have the temperament. Politics is a social game, and these days I'm decidedly not good at it. I'm no good at functioning with knives in my back, and I wouldn't get a wink of sleep if I did what it took to actually get anywhere in politics. I'd get eaten alive in five seconds in the shark tank we call the political arena.

16. Your comment shows your insight
therefore, you are clear about the political arena. The next step is to practice becoming adept swimming with the sharks without losing your soul. Then you know you have really arrived.

3. There are plenty of other, better places. The good bits about America survive in other democracies.

5. I wish I could go back to the good ol' days
when I never gave a shit about politics. I thought about elections for about 2 weeks before I had to vote and then never gave it another thought. Oh...That was a sweet time. My family really was much better off then. But those were the Clinton years and this is now.

7. I know exactly what you mean.
I used to not care about politics - during the Clinton administration, sure there were things that were fucked up, but the country still seemed to function OK - there were a few idiots here and there in government, and there was the GOP Congress and the impeachment, but most of the federal departments and agencies had people in them that were reasonably professional, and things continued to go OK.

Most of the time, I didn't think too much about politics - just seeing a glimpse of the impeachment on the news, resulting in a roll of the eyes, then I go back to a movie, or game, or a party, or something fun.

Since 2001, this country has fallen to a black malignancy. And now I can barely think of anything but how fucked up this country's become, It's become an obsession for me, and that black malignancy is eating me with the rest of the country.

23. I've had to cut down......
I've had to cut down my blog and news reading. It was stressing me out way too much. I agree with you backscatter....that was me in the 90's too. In the past 6 years, I've been a political junkie, each scandal or illegal action bringing a " This will certainly mean impeachment" ....but we see how well that has worked. I really thought it would be different when the Dems took over. I even rejoined this forum with a new name....the old one was too optimistic.
I've been making editorial music videos lately. It is cathartic for me....helps to express my frustration. I send them to friends and family who don't have a clue ( and are probably much happier than me!). I have had some success in at least some of them showing an interest in what is going on and asking me questions after watching the videos. I guess we need a little 'entertainment' factor to get them to take notice.
Here are links to two of them. The soundtrack is My son's original music...reason enough to go watch!

6. I disagree,...Bushco and the Neocons are like a really nasty flu bug.
After we shit them out and recuperate, we'll be stronger.
Of course we're screwed if we can't learn from the past.

8. when reagan was crowned the big cheese!
rerally, george junyer hasn't done anything except press on the gas a lil too hard when the freeway suddenly became a county back road fulla poolsized potholes and the vehicle's balloon tires all went flat at the same time as the descent into the valley suddenly steepened so much nearby pedestrians can be seen using ropes to get down! And the fact we are outta gas hardly matters in light of the hundred plus mph so far registered on the speedo, but his flatulence riding the goddam brakes which has made them red hot melting the tires, and his burning out the clutch (junyer was never shown how to drive before, so don't blame him!) means down time in the future, for all of us, that's for sure, if and when the fukkin car gets stopped! But it was idiot reagan who gave his flatulence the keys (the other guy, billy jeff, had to borrow the keys when he was the driver, and pappy bush of course has his own set) And Billy Jeff left the tank full of gas, which is a big mistake, which he shoulda foreseen! You people's real concern should be one thing and one thing only- that his flatulence gets outta the car in one well coiffed piece! The car can always be replaced, but if anything happens to junyer bush....!!!
if anything happens to his flatulence.....(??) it's impossible even to think of it!
pray, dam you all, pray!

9. Actually, I think that's a good thing...
For a couple years now, I've felt that the only way things will change is when things hit bottom. Like the Great Depression, only worse. For the last eight years, we've been trying to help people who don't want our help. America's like the corner drunk who takes your handout, promises to buy food, and buys another fifth instead.

Problem is though, I think America still has a long way to go before it hits bottom.

17. You're easily discouraged. The Republican Party is bankrupt; we're headed for landslides in 2008...
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 06:15 AM by Perry Logan
There are countless investigations going on. The internet is safe for now. Our wounded vets are no longer lying around in their own urine. The Senate Ethics Committee is back in action. Many 9/11 Commission recommendations are being passed. A bill to increase financial aid for colleges has passed--the single largest increase in college aid since the GI bill.

The President's signing statements are being investigated. Legislation to restore habeus corpus has been approved. The Senate Armed Services Commitee has passed legislation "that would grant new rights to terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay. The unions have a voice in the government now—as do gays, women, and minorities. The environment has a fighting chance.

The House passed the Taxpayer Protection Act, to protect taxpayers against "identity theft, deceptive Web sites and loan sharks." It also makes it "easier for taxpayers to retrieve property lost as a result of a wrongful Internal Revenue Service levy and directs the IRS to notify lower-income people that they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit." The House approved a bill spending $1.7 billion over five years for cleaner water. There's a new House committee devoted solely to addressing the issue of global warming. And so on.

"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."

Don't let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well--especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.

25. As always, Perry, I will hope that you are correct and myself wrong.
And although we may disagree on a lot of things, that we are ultimately on the same side.

I happen to agree quite strongly with you that it's nuts not to vote for the Democratic Candidate for President in 2008, and I share your distress at the fair-sized minority of DUers who seem hell-bent on doing so.

I just can't see where the serious Constitutional issues, next to which "bread and butter" issues are almost meanigless, are being beaten back. And I don't see where investigations are leading to the multiple-indictments that are time and again exposed.

I know we disagree on this, and I will continue to pray that your view is correct and mine hysterical and :tinfoilhat: .

26. Hang in there
I know it's difficult. Time and time again we get all psyched thinking this will be it - from the 2004 elections when we were so sure that the people of this country would throw the * cabal out of office, to Fitzmas, to Plamegate, to the 2006 Democratic victories and the belief that our elected representatives would stop this insipid, incomprehensible war, bring our troops home and impeach the chimp and Darth...The disappointments go on and on.

But if we quit, if we roll over - as surely the neo-cons hope we will - they win. And I will be damned if they beat me. I will not allow them their victory. It's more than patriotism at this point. It's a matter of honor.
