No, it's not that DHS is granting permission for terrorists to use these items, but the businesses that DO use them must report such use to the government.

My problem: The list specifies weight threshholds and concentrations of certain chemicals. Sort of like hints.

As a result, businesses with more than 500 pounds of chlorine that could potentially be stolen, and businesses with 2,500 pounds of chlorine that could be hazardous if released, will be subject to reporting requirements.

Facilities with at least 2,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate used in fertilizers that could be easily stolen and potentially used to make a bomb must also fill out the online forms.

And businesses that have hydrogen peroxide at a 35 percent concentration will also be subject to regulations.

So: if you have 60,000 pounds of propane, that's a reportable threat, but 59,999 pounds is not. Got less than 35% concentration of hydrogen peroxide? You'll need something stronger for that shoe bomb - and here's where you can find it! :eyes:

1. More utter foolishness from DHS

Spreading more lies and stupidity. What these yahoos at DHS fail to realize that if you have the knowledge and the desire, you can make a bomb, one that actually kills people, out of damn near anything including stuff you find in the produce aisle at your local supermarket. The way it's going pretty soon we're all going to be mandated to register every purchase we make in order to show we're not some sort of evil terrarist.

6. It seems the government and in fact our entire society is hung up

on the concept that we can prevent evil people from doing evil by limiting their access to the materials they need to do evil - which is probably a fantasy. Like you say, there is no end to what human deviousness can come up with - the human mind cannot be controlled.

They need to figure out who is so dissatisfied that they would do things like this, and see what can be done to bring them back into society. But it looks as if we prefer to create outsiders and rub salt in that wound until people hate society so much they lash out at it.
