Check this movie out: "No End in Sight"
If you have Netflix, you can watch it for free online (go to their Watch Now section). Or you should be able to rent it or buy it somewhere. I'm watching it online.

It's about how we got into this whole Iraq mess; I'm only halfway through - I originally thought I knew most of this stuff and it was just laid out in a pretty damning fashion, but I'm coming across more and more material that's new. For instance, when the looting started, you remember how the museums with all the Mesopotamia treasures and artifacts (many priceless, certainly irreplaceable) were raided, and we were like "how could the all be so dumb not to plan for this?". Well, it turns out there was a planning office, except it was only set up 50 days before the invasion, they were given no resources, and nevertheless came up with a list of some twenty places, and the national museum was #1 on the list. It went up the chain of command (not too far to travel, because they reported to the Pentagon), who ended up doing nothing (except protecting the Ministry of Oil and the oil fields), and everyone was basically told to "not bother with that", and it just goes to hell from there. So there was a bunch of planning, as best as you can do with only 60 days to do it, but it was all killed by the time it hit the inner circle. The hubris that is coming to light is nothing short of appalling.

1. Preaching to the Choir...
I haven't seen the movie but I know what your are saying is correct. Just too depressing to watch.

3. I bought it on Amazon, but haven't watched it yet.
They had a package deal with Why We Fight, which is a great movie that I wanted to add to my collection. Glad to hear it's worthwhile viewing; sounds like a Friday evening viewing in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine would be the way to go.

4. You might want something a bit stronger than wine
Although it's generally tasteful, just powerful in its entirety. It's not like, I think, "News Room" (about al-Jazeera. That one I couldn't get past the halfway point, it was a just bit too powerful and hit a little too close to home.

5. I just watching it; part II was even more concerning
They honestly seemed to want to help and we just blew them off.

As we knew, but as this lays out, all this shit was thoroughly avoidable (from day 1, imho). We did nothing but make it into the worst situation possible.

You should watch it, even if you are in the "choir" being preached to.
