Rice is forcing diplomats to go to Iraq - or be fired?
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 01:46 PM by leftyladyfrommo
This whole uproar just blows me away. Would Rice go to Iraq and stay outside the Green Zone? I don't think so.

I can't believe this whole thing is even happening. It is so stupid. No one in their right mind would want to go there - like they say: it's a death sentence.

Here we go falling down the rabbit hole again. I do it almost daily now. This has to be the most absurd time that I can ever remember in our history. It is absolutely unbelievable.

I know there has to be a discussion out here on this but I can't find it.

1. I keep wondering if the employees at State couldn't stage some sort of mass refusal--
or bring charges of endangering their lives? something? anything?

anybody here have any ideas?

I think about the movie "7 days in may" when the military almost managed to stage a coup.

3. Sounds like that might be what they are doing. They are furious.
If they all simply refuse they could back Rice down. She can't fire all of them.

5. Actually, yes, she can. She won't fire any loyal bushies. .
(but then she won't threaten THEM with the Green Zone either.)

8. We thought Reagan couldn't fire all the Air Traffic Controllers -- and he did.
Never underestimate right wing demagogues in a snit.

2. She must call upon their conservative values
for as limbaugh will tell anyone who will listen only honorable Americans with real conservative values will serve honorably (and blindly) in Iraq. Everyone else is phoney. Too bad for the secretary of state that her folks aren't all blind. What a fucking ignorant, worthless cunt. Why do we even have a state department?

Just like we don't have a DOJ any more.

We are just stuck out here with a whole big lot of insanity.

7. don't even say that, why do we have a State Department???
did you see how they shredded the Justice Dept. they want all these departments to dissolve or corrupt them beyond recognition.

Cheney wants Executive Unitary powers for only this stupid little man, and does not hide the fact.

10. I agree
with your point but did not state it clearly. Our state department is not doing anything to achieve its mission and as you so aptly point out, they are (not) doing it ON PURPOSE. The whole mission of any republican administration is to prove their point that government does not work. Put us in charge and we will prove it. They are doing an outstanding job in that regard.

6. I still want to know what all those "diplomats" are supposed to do over there
Convince the locals that our looting and pillaging is good for them? Hold cocktail parties for Maliki and the boys, complete with burka-clad hookers? I mean, seriously, what the fuck do we need these people for? We're not practicing any "diplomacy" with Iraq. We're an occupying force populating our own newly built castle. No amount of "diplomacy" is going to assuage the Iraqis.

Oh, wait...maybe we're there for diplomatic relations with the oil companies. Gee, you think?

Electricity is only on for a little while each day. They couldn't even fire up their computers.

14. It is ridiculous isn't it.
The whole thing right from the start has been a political suicide mission. Anybody else regardless of the motivation for attacking Iraq would have given up by now just out of practicality and left the Iraqi's to deal with their own problems. And to top it all off one can only imagine the pissing and moaning that would be going on right now if this were a Democratic President who had created this clusterf**k.
