This really makes me scream at my teevee. They don't seem to get that the higher the fuel prices go, the harder it is for people who must to afford to drive longer distances to a job (e.g., rural state folks) or to buy food or any other product on the market or to heat and maintain their homes. Do you get the impression that these media folks don't deal with life the way most of the rest of us do? I equally condemn the convoluted thinking of activists who want us all to pay extremely high prices in the absence of affordable technological alternatives to what we have now. There are many of us out here who do our best to conserve, recycle, and to live in a manner which has as little impact on the earth as possible. However, I would venture to say there are others like me who cannot afford a new hybrid car right now. We can't afford solar panels or geothermal conversion of our heating system. We just don't have the money nor are we able to take on debt now. I'd rather make certain I keep my home than go into debt that could cause us to lose it.

Let us get real about energy issues at all levels. Something has got to be done for change to occur without decimating the lower classes who are being beaten down as it is by the banking and real estate sections and pushed into jobs that do not pay living wages.
