Police release more records in Gotbaum death
Nothing new, though. Still controversy as to whether she was drinking (or drunk).

<snip>
Carol Gotbaum made a grim, emotional flight to Phoenix and may have ordered a Bloody Mary from a flight attendant, according to new witness accounts.

<snip>
The accounts were among more than 200 pages of documents released Wednesday by the Phoenix police homicide unit, which probed the New York woman's Sept. 28 death at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

<snip>
Betsy Gotbaum, a New York politician and Gotbaum's mother-in-law, called the day of the death and asked police to use Carol Gotbaum's maiden name in police reports to shield the Gotbaum family from publicity.

1. "...shield the Gotbaum family from publicity...." The telling part of the story

Too bad this poor woman did not get help locally..she'd be alive today.. but Hey.. local friends of the "family" might have found out she was in re-hab.. I'll always wonder how many people were told she was going to a "spa" in AZ... too bad someone did not go with her to get her settled in..

2. Several points: the initial autopsy was apparently inconclusive,
suggesting that strangulation was not the cause of death.

Second - if she was on an anti-depressant and still drinking, that may have been the cause of death. Some anti-depressants don't mix well with alcohol.

Third - if she was on an anti-depressant - who prescribed them?

Fourth - if we expect our police to function as paramedics and psychiatric social workers, the we better be willing to train them.

3. Wow,. thats some mother-in-law.

"Betsy Gotbaum, a New York politician and Gotbaum's mother-in-law, called the day of the death and asked police to use Carol Gotbaum's maiden name in police reports to shield the Gotbaum family from publicity."

If I'm understanding the context of the request --- that's an awfully unkind thing to do. The b-word comes to mind.
