Draft Gore: Thanks, Update & Please Vote!!

Newsletter

Dear Friends,

First of all, a big thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout this campaign and have made the success of the last few weeks possible. As you know, earlier this month we took out a full-page ad in the New York Times, which made headlines around the country and even the world. And we're very happy let you know that thanks to the generosity of so many of you, we're about to launch a TV ad campaign by this weekend.

Today we'd like to update you with the latest news and ask just one thing of you:

Vote for Al Gore in this DFA Poll
Gore winning as a write-in! But it's close . . .

http://cts.vresp.com/c/?draftgore.com/e685013541/1107425468/4af568ad26

No one believed this would be possible. Al Gore's name and picture are not included in this important poll run by Democracy for America. You have to go to some trouble to even write in his name. And yet people by tpulsepoll_sidebar-dfa_VOTE.jpghe tens of thousands have voted for Gore and he's in the lead. This is already making news, and DFA could well make an endorsement if a candidate wins by a large enough margin. But the other candidates are fighting hard, so please, VOTE TODAY. To vote, look for the "Other" icon (you have to scroll down), drag it to the top, and in the space provided type in Al Gore's name.

Draft Gore Update

Draft Gore has never been busier than this past month. The New York Times ad gave us a national platform, and we were quoted in most stories about Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize two days later. We were also featured on network news stories, such as this one on ABC News. And we hope our TV ad will have a similar or even greater impact.

Moreover, polls are showing a surge of support for Gore, who is polling much better than Hillary Clinton against Republican candidates and is now a strong second for the nomination (32%) in a recent poll by CBS News. Please see our website for more news. The TV ad should be up soon.

Thanks again for staying the course with Draft Gore.

Sincerely,

Monica Friedlander

1. Primary deadline for Michigan: Last week
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 11:20 AM by SteppingRazor
Primary deadline for South Carolina: Today
Primary deadline for New Hampshire: Tomorrow
Hell, there's probably also some others that I'm forgetting.

How many states can slip by before Gore gets in? Or is it purely a write-in campaign at this point?

I should state that I'm a huge fan of Gore, but now that October has come and gone, I believe a Gore run is simply an impossibility.

2. I'm a huge fan too...
...but I would like to move on if he's really not running.

With those primary deadlines in SC and NH--does that mean that
Gore cannot be included on the ballot in those states now? HOwever,
people can write him in, is that correct?

I'm in Iowa. The caucuses would make it nearly impossible for Gore
to make any sort of showing.

Like you, I'm a huge fan of Gore and I will be grieving for a long time
if he is not running. He is my hope for the future of this country.

5. You can always write-in a name, but...
let's be serious here. A write-in presidential campaign? Come on now.

9. Move On Where?
Is this where we are supposed to learn to love HRC and the Iraq/soon-to-be-Iran war?

Is this where we are supposed to join Obama in throwing the gays under the bus?

13. Haaaayyyl NO...
Please don't ever associate me with voting for Hillary. The mere
association gives me hives.

I'm not happy with Obama either.

I feel that if he's not running, I need to figure out what's
next.

If he's not running, what's next is probably a week in bed with
pint after pint of Haagen Daz and box after box of Kleenex.

We shall see. I guess we'll know definitively after his Leno appearance.

8. Dude, Michigan's delegates won't count...it's a beauty contest.
Gore can afford to skip Michigan, because everyone except Hillary already opted out.

South Carolina will probably be split between Edwards, Obama and Colbert - so he can skip that.

New Hampshire is another story. I have a theory that Gore may use a write-in campaign in New Hampshire to "test the waters". If he doesn't announce tomorrow or on the Jay Leno show on 11/8, I'll look for someone else.

4. Oh ye of diminishing faith ...
Don't give up hope QUITE yet ! Apparently Monday is the deadline for the one biggie : Illinois filing. Then on Thursday ( ONE WEEK from today !!)there's Gore's 30 Rock guest spot, followed that night by his Jay Leno Tonight Show appearance. I think (hope/pray) things will be mighty clear a week from today.

Oh, that reminds me ... time to stock up on some champagne !

7. Interestante........
"30 Rock"....THEN Leno?

Wow, that certainly sounds like something is brewing.

I heard that the "30 Rock" cast really harangued him about running, and they
were constantly holding up signs that stated, "Run Al Run!"

I imagine if he ran, he wouldn't announce on Leno or "30 Rock". Who knows?

I agree...we will know one way or another after these shows.

Ya got me thinkin! :)

22. On March 18, 1968, Robert Kennedy announced his candidacy for the
Democratic presidential nomination.

http://www.jfklibrary.org/Historical+Resources/Biographies+and+Profiles/Biographies/bio_kennedy_Robert_F.htm

After barely winning the New Hampshire primary, Johnson withdrew from the election campaign.

Bobby Kennedy had entered the campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination barely two weeks before - just after Johnson’s New Hampshire debacle. He’d done so reluctantly at the behest of voices as diverse as Pete Hamill and Cesar Chavez. In announcing his candidacy, Kennedy knew he’d incur the wrath of those within and without his party:

“I do not run for the Presidency merely to oppose any man, but to propose new policies. I run because I am convinced that this country is on a perilous course and because I have such strong feelings about what must be done, and I feel that I’m obliged to do all I can.” Robert F. Kennedy, March 16, 1968.
