Congress, Bush Clash on Spending Bills

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional Democrats backed away from a spending showdown with President Bush on Thursday, dropping plans to tie the Pentagon budget to a labor and education measure that Bush has vowed to veto.

As negotiators were beginning to fashion the first spending bill to send to Bush for the budget year that began Oct. 1, Democrats instead planned to wrap a huge education, health and labor bill with a popular measure funding veterans' programs and military base construction.

Rep. David Obey, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said the decision to drop defense spending from the bill was a sign of the Democrats' willingness to compromise.

2. HEADLINE: "DEMOCRATS COMPROMISE ON..."
Why is it I never see the headline:

Bush compromises on...?

Compromise is a two way street. It works from both sides. Why is only one side giving in? The Democrats are the majority party. When are they going to do their jobs and do what the American people want them to do?

4. How many "signs of the Democrats' willingness to compromise"
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 10:56 AM by Amonester
with an internationally renowned war criminal (and a lame duck 20-something percent approval dictator) are necessary before they'll begin to stand up and do want the people want (and true justice requires)?

Why do they have to take an oath of office?

5. I wish for once they would just do what they need to do and say...
FUCK YOU bu$h.
If he veto's the measure, then it is on him.
They send another bill with exactly the same measures.
