Iraq cancels Blackwater immunity

The Iraqi government has approved a law which lifts immunity for foreign security companies, including Blackwater.

Security companies in Iraq have been operating under immunity, after a decree was imposed more than three years ago by a U.S. official who ran the country after the American-led invasion.

The new Iraq draft law is expected to be passed overwhelmingly by parliament, amid public outrage over Blackwater's seemingly unprovoked killing of 17 Iraqis last month, plus a series of other Iraqi civilian deaths perpetrated by foreign contractors.

But there it is. What the Iraqi gov't can do about it now they've got the no-immunity law is another matter. Somehow I don't think BushCo will play ball.

But kudos to them for trying to take control of the out-of-control.
