6. I doubt it can be stopped.
I guess their version of communism is okay, as opposed to the former USSR. I wish they would screen what comes into this country more closely, but that will never happen.

2. No but they should be legally pressured to enforce fair labor and safety standards.

5. Come on folks, the problem is as much with our FDA as it is with China..
If the FDA was doing it's job this "shit" would be caught long before it was even allowed to enter our system! The Bush Administration has basically shut the entire Gov't. down in order to wage war and now nothing else maters... Not your safety or mine!

9. US distributors can test products
Melissa and Doug test every shipment. That's not to say some piece of a toy couldn't get through, but it's noteworthy that nothing has yet. There's no reason every company that distributes in the US couldn't take that same step to protect consumers. Our companies don't care any more than the Chinese ones do.

10. IOW should NAFTA regs be enforced?
China has been breaking the rules left and right, but no one is calling them to account. They're loaning us all the money for Iraq, Bush is going to let them do whatever they wish.

11. No, but they should be tested by the Feds and we should have tariffs on
them to encourage having this stuff made here again to get our jobs back.

12. No, but there should be high quality standards, inspections
in customs to make sure the quality standards are met and high tariffs so that they must compete with our domestic goods, you know the way it used to be when America was great.

14. You probably can't ban all imports. If you look at the tags in your
local stores, almost all clothing & shoes are made in China. What should be banned are all toys. I actually don't blame the Chinese for the rash of recalled toys we've seen recently. I blame the greedy toy companies. I worked in a mfg. environment for quite a few years, and when a company solicits a bid for you to make a product for them, they submit the specs. I can only see to possible explainations for the current recalled products.

1. The toy company didn't specify the content and explicitly exclude lead.

In which the toy company is responsible.

2. The Chinese mfg. ignored the specs and had the products as cheap as they possible could.

Again, the toy company is ultimately responsible because the FIRST THING a company does is to test the first product that comes into their facility to make SURE it conforms to their spec. They obviously didn't do that!

15. Made in China
has been a gold rush for American corporations.
if they want to have goods made in China they should be held responsible for the cost of teting ALL goods they are importing to the US.
That should even the playing field. Right now the corporations are cleaning up while they shift the cost to the sickened consumers or the possibility of tax paid inspections.
