Fun, fun although we didn't decorate outdoors this year, there's just something about being outside, seeing all the kids, very young and up (some in their 50's) out having fun.

33. We didn't have any trick or treaters this year. We live in an apartment building

and there aren't many kids. Since two of our kitties are black, I figure that's decoration enough.

42. We were all missing Nosy as Halloween was one of his all time

favorite nights! He used to crouch either in the monkey grass along the sidewalk or underneath the laurels by the porch steps and jump out and scare the kiddies then he would jump up on the porch rail so incredibly proud of himself. He was solid black so he could hide rather well after dark thirty or so.

14. Hi Truthseekers! Checking in from the Wobbly Zone.

Mr. c wanted to watch a DVD last night, so we were watching "Transformers" (I know!) when our Lazy Boys started rocking by themselves. We looked at each other and brilliantly declaimed "Earthquake!!!"

According to the news we had a 3.7 aftershock a couple of hours ago. We didn't feel that one, the the local CBS affiliate found it newsworthy enough to interrupt Judy Judy during a classic tirade against an eBay scammer.

I was so worried about you guys when I heard about the earthquake last night. I'm glad you guys came through it ok. Happy Halloween!!! Big :hug:s for the fuzzies!! (Did they act weird before the quake hit?)

38. Usually the kitties act up, especially when we're all in bed.

They start bouncing around on the mattress like a trampoline, and then we feel the tremor. (I guess it's much more noticeable when you're lying flat - surface tension and all that.)

The damn movie soundtrack was so loud (and we have 5.1 surround sound) that the critters probably didn't sense anything. Oddly, the quake hit during a rare dialogue scene. We thought it was amazingly long, and we later heard it was 30 seconds. That's huge in quake time. No damage at all at our house, and we're right on the Hayward fault. This one was on the Calaveras fault, which connects to the Hayward. There's been a lot of local concern that last night presages a Big One on Hayward.

We always have water, canned food and batteries on hand, just in case!

First you sense the movement. Then it dawns on you what it is. Then you ask the nearest human "Is that an earthquake???" Then, as you race around looking for a radio to confirm the diagnosis, you begin your personal analysis of the magnitude and duration, and wonder how horrible the damage could be at the epicenter.

My first quake experience was in 1982. One in the morning. I thought a drunk had crashed into my apartment wall. It was a 5.5.

87. Hi alyce! Yeah, we all have our geographic anomalies.

I grew up in Ohio. On the 4th of July following high school graduation, a huge hurricane-force storm suddenly hit the shores of Lake Erie. Thousands had gathered at lakeside parks to watch fireworks. I was at home at the time. One girl was killed in the storm. A tree fell on her. I remember listening on the radio as the reporter talked about holding her as she died. I later found out it was the same friend I'd shared a lunch table with in the cafeteria. Greta lived one block from me.

Sad to learn at an early age that things can turn on a dime, especially where nature is concerned. But things can happen anytime, anyplace.
