Woman gets new car after giving hers as reward for lost dog
Source: San Antonio Express

How far would you go to get your dog back? One San Antonio woman gave away one of her most prized possessions, and Tuesday night, she got the surprise of her life.

Latasha Armendariz was surprised with a new Ford Mustang convertible when she returned home from work.

Armendariz had given her 1996 convertible to the man who found Porkchop, her missing 2-year-old English Bulldog, earlier this month.

"I just wanted Porkchop back, you know. He's my baby. So, to have this and him, I'm just, like, on top of the world," she said

3. Here's the thing missing from this story...
If I had found that dog, and she offered me her CAR, I wouldn't have taken it! So, the story is missing any reference to the dickhead who actually took her car from her when she offered it. Latasha, you have a kind heart indeed, but the person who took your car...is probably the kind of person who'd take your dog just for the reward.

4. That was my thought, too. I can't imagine accepting any reward
for finding someone's beloved pet, let alone taking their car as a reward. It's heartwarming to know there is a first class good samaritan out there.

5. Dog Napping
Unfortunately dog napping is nothing new here...u grab a dog...and just wait for the the reward notice to appear...i'm sure this is what happened here...people are just so happy to get their "loved one" back...they really don't care about the circumstances of the "disappearance"

14. yes it's a problem nationwide -- and people who offer these big rewards are fueling this industry

if people only offered a token reward, or just paid for the legitimate expenses such as food and vet, of the person finding the lost dog, there would be a lot fewer "lost" dogs

a great many are stolen for the rewards, some people make a regular profit "finding" animals and returning them for hefty rewards

some time ago, a woman in my neighborhood posted a $500 reward for her lost cat, i sent her a letter, with my credentials (at the time i did some work for the pet business press), asking her to please take down the offer of the reward, because she was putting ALL of our pets in danger by encouraging people to kidnap pets for profit -- and i, for one, was not high income and couldn't afford to pay an extortionist (most of the people in my area ARE high income and have no idea of the value of the dollar)

these days people seem to have smartened up and the reward is more fair, something like $50 or so, which will cover the genuine expenses of finding the dog, without making it profitable to help pets get lost

so i'm glad the woman's car was replaced, but i'm disgusted that she helped a criminal profit by giving away her original car in the first place

i would like to know how many pets the finder has "found" over the years, i bet it would be eye-opening

and while he has to report the receipt of the car because of licensing issues, i bet he's taken plenty of cash under the table and never paid a dime of income tax on it either

6. I'm going to err on the caution by asking
what was the condition of the car she gave away? If it had 200,000 miles and needed work, maybe it wasn't as super a deal as it might at first appear. Maybe the guy who found the dog was just as willing to fix the car up as the woman was to give it to him.

I'd like to know that before I pass judgment on him.

I'm just sayin'.

19. Agree
when my aunts little dog was missing she offered a $1000 reward. The person who found the dog refused it, they said they were just happy to have returned the dog to my aunt. My aunt's happy tears was the only reward they would accept.

18. NEVER offer a reward for a lost pet. You then might get someone who'll hold your pet hostage
If you offer $50 someone might demand $100.

You also open yourself up to bogus calls.

Most people who see your Lost posters will be just as willing to contact you with no reward expected.

Further, putting the word 'reward' on the poster just clutters it up.

Use a big photo and as few words as possible.

21. I could NEVER take a reward for reuniting a pet and his/her human.
I wouldn't. It isn't something you should do for money. It would make me feel cheap.
