Kondracke: Waterboarding "doesn't result in any lasting damage"

Summary: In a Fox News "All-Star" panel discussion, Morton Kondracke said of the interrogation technique known as waterboarding, "I'm sure it feels like torture, you know, it doesn't result in any lasting damage, but it feels like torture." But a physician who heads a program for torture survivors told a Senate committee that techniques such as waterboarding "are intended to break the prisoners down, to terrify them and cause harm to their psyche, and in so doing result in lasting harmful health consequences." He also said: "There is a real risk of death from actually drowning or suffering a heart attack or damage to the lungs."

5. Only *physical* damage is considered *real* damage
Psychological damage that lasts a lifetime, eh, that's ok.

6. Um torture is about psychology not about physical damage
It is about making the person suffer beyond reason. It is about terrorizing them. It is the most direct and ultimate form of terrorism. And we practice it. We are terrorists.

...being subject to waterboarding.

After all, it's "not torture".

I really hate these ignorant, shitty comments that these
arrogant reporters make.

Enough.

How in the world can anyone believe that it's ok that our
country does these things to people? It's just so God-awful.

Who cares if Kondrake believes it doesn't result in lasting damage.

The central point is that the United States government positions
human beings on a slanted board, covers their face with wet towels,
pours water on their faces and simulates drowning that causes
panic, trauma and psychological duress. Why is this ok with some
people that our country does this????

I am so tired of people talking about specific torture techniques and
rationalizing them---while not even paying attention to the fact that
our country does these monster-like things to other human beings who
may OR MAY NOT have done anything wrong.

It's so sick!

9. Gee Torquemada of the Spanish Inquisition specialized in
torture that didn't kill too until he extracted the confession he wanted. Then the prisoner could be tried and executed.

Fox News is truly getting scary. I no longer laugh at them.
