Why 'everyone' hates Dennis:
Let's step back a bit. Many of us here at DU and elsewhere, assuming that there's intelligent life outside of DU, know that the one thing that each of these rabid RWers have in common is their peculiar brand of sexuality. Many theories have been proffered that the reason they've all been marching in lock-step all these years is that the powers-that-be have the 'goods' on this crowd and have threatened to release the information if anyone breaks with the group. This is the biggest 'untold' story in America right now.

What absolutely kills them about Dennis is that he's a dynamic intellectual guy, who's short, not necessarily a crime in itself, but not great among these 'giants' :sarcasm:, but there's the irony/rub: he's married to a brilliant, tall, gorgeous REDHEAD, who is by far the most interesting of the female spouses of the candidates (Bill Clinton of course, leads the gender-neutral pack in that regard). Their marriage reminds me of the Rob and Laura Petrie union: highly sexually charged but not overt or obnoxiously PSA'd. This just KILLS these guys who want everyone to think they're so manly when this guy is married to a 12 on a scale of one to ten. Here in Philly, we have a single, handsome, lady-killer baseball player named Pat Burrell, who plays left field - yes I know this is coming from left field, but give me one minute here to make my point - this guy spent much of his time here striking out looking, but his walk away from the plate was always tinged with "I may have struck out here, but I'm gonna get laid tonight, so what do I care?" This guy ran through single women here and probably on the road, like a lawn mower. Many of the male fans hated him for that look.

Dennis of course doesn't have anything to prove in that department. You can see the looks on the faces of the men who talk to them as a couple that even if they attempt to make a schmuck out of him for whatever specious reason, he gets to go home with her. And if you think that men don't envy that, you're missing a big point here. Forget the politics, these guys are so confused about their own sexuality including their own attractiveness or lack of same, that when they're faced by this couple, they're angry and jealous.

One man's opinion...

8. I do not hate Kucinich.
If he was the Democratic nominee, I would vote for him, as I would for anyone in the field candidates right now. Can every Kucinich supporter say that?

3. Some of us distrust (not hate) Kucinich because he is steeped in new age paranormal beliefs
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 08:03 AM by salvorhardin
We were all uncomfortable when we found out that Nancy Reagan was consulting astrologers and then passing their advice along to Ronnie but Kucinich makes Nancy Reagan look like a paragon of rationality.
By mid-1985, he was dipping into New Age waters at a New Mexico institute and patching together a constellation of dietary and personal beliefs. During those lean years he lived for a while at Shirley MacLaine's house in Malibu and for 21 years has owed her $20,000, a debt he is now paying down. His supporters include MacLaine; Carol Rosin, a peace activist who helped hurl LSD pioneer Timothy O'Leary's ashes into space; and Chris Griscom, the proprietor of the aforementioned institute, where one can learn about liquid enlightenment, reincarnation, and hook up with a cranial adviser. (MacLaine credits Griscom with teaching her how to talk to trees.)

In 2001, Kucinich introduced a bill to outlaw space-based weapons that featured "radiation, electromagnetic, psychotronic, sonic, laser, or other energies...for the purpose of information war, mood management, or mind control of such populations." Also to be included were "chemtrails," the vapors left by jets, which some believe change weather and cause other mischief. When called on the chemtrail inclusion, he dropped it from the bill. Kucinich insists his real background lies in the ward politics of Cleveland, the grim realities of blue-collar life, and not his friendships with various New Age figures. And in the end, Kucinich is believable about his real roots. He is fundamentally an Us Against Them guy. In his wallet he carries a '60s Topps card of Indians slugger Rocky Colavito and a fragment from Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno: "Only he who attempts the absurd is capable of achieving the impossible."

Shirley MacLaine also claims Kucinich reports having seen a UFO. The Chris Griscom mentioned in the Mother Jones article is the proprietor of The Light Institute.
Nestled in the magical hills of Galisteo, New Mexico, The Light Institute remains timeless. Founded in 1985 by world renowned and respected Spiritual Teacher, Healer and Author, Chris Griscom, this enchanting center for spiritual healing and multi-incarnational exploration is without equal. Individuals of all ages, from all walks of life, from around the world visit The Light Institute to heal the body, mind, and spirit.

What distinguishes the work at The Light Institute is the expertise of the internationally famous and incomparably trained Light Institute Facilitators and the unique method they use. Personally selected and trained by Ms. Griscom, the Facilitators deliver the highest degree of integrity while guiding and protecting you during your spiritual exploration. The method used during this adventure is phenomenally powerful. Ms. Griscom teaches that merely viewing and clearing a lifetime is insufficient to actualize the healing process and develop a repertoire for living in ecstasy. To truly heal and live within divine frequencies, these incarnational memories must be released at the cellular level so that the pure energy is redirected to our lives now.

Kucinich also has close ties to the Maharishi University of Management.
Trailing in polls, Kucinich gains loyal following in Fairfield area
Fairfield Daily Ledger/January 15, 2004
By Erik Gable

Members of Natural Law Party embrace Democratic candidate.

He doesn't get as much press as Howard Dean or Dick Gephardt, and polls consistently rank him in the single digits, but Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich has developed a devoted following in Fairfield, due in part to members of the Transcendental Meditation community.

He's been endorsed by John Hagelin, three-time presidential candidate for the Fairfield-based Natural Law Party. Messages to the Natural Law Party's Fairfield e-mail list update supporters on Kucinich events in the area. And a house party Saturday afternoon at a Sthapatya-Veda mansion near Maharishi Vedic City drew a few hundred admirers to watch a presentation to the Ohio congressman from a group of Maharishi School students.

Members of the Students Creating Peace Network, an organization founded by Maharishi School students after Sept. 11, 2001, designed an award for Kucinich called the Shanti Award. "Shanti" means "peace" in Sanskrit, which is taught to Maharishi School students and appears along with English on Maharishi Vedic City's official signs.

On edit: Kucinich may be a thinker but to term him an intellectual seems to me, given Kucinich's credulousness, to be a long stretch.

4. Agreed...
I'm no fan of Dennis' to say the least...but I'm always amused at the folks who clearly are jealous of him for the reasons I outlined above. There is a difference between not wanteing him as a Presidential candidate for Prez, and hating him personally, which many in MSM and politics seem to.

10. Oh, please
Thats an ancient GOP talking point about Dennis, its been around for decades.

I'm not sure how one equates working for peace as being "paranormal" or "new age". Working for peace is a pretty normal thing, even Jesus believed in it.

6. Why I love him!
He's the ONLY candidate with the balls to call it like it is.
Bush IS a war criminal. He should be impeached IMMEDIATELY. DK was the only one last night who said this.
DK would make a GREAT president - maybe the greatest ever. A DK presidency would define America in a way that most closely aligns with the high ideals of this country.
It probably won't happen with most sheep following the media faves, but I, for one, won't compromise my vote anymore.

9. Very interesting, thanks!
You're probably right. I've also always thought the bigwigs have such a visceral hate for him because he can't be bought, he can't be controlled or manipulated. He's a very just and fair person and pretty much incorruptible.
