This poll was started with the goal of getting 1,000 DUers to vote; which would be far and away the largest sampling of DUers ever in a DU candidate poll.

It's now only 70 votes away from the 1,000 vote mark. If you haven't voted yet, how about clicking on the link and bringing up the vote total!

With computers there's always a way to cheat.If you wanted to vote 10 times in this poll you could do it.Easily.Computers + voting = dangerous mix.

It seems to me that if DUers were doing that, it wouldn't be taking over 4 days to reach 1,000 votes.

The idea of this DU poll is to get as accurate a reading of DU sentiment as possible, by going for a much larger sample than most DU polls measure.

Most DU polls get up to maybe 300-400 votes at best -- getting more than 200 or so votes is pretty rare. Trying for 1,000 votes on a DU poll has never been done before. I didn't start the poll, but it seemed like a worthwhile goal to me, so I've been publicizing it.

I don't know about you, but I find the results so far pretty interesting.

The election debates and politicking seems so insignificant with our problems right now though I know the outcome is important. The fight against all the crap that is going on keeps one strung out and busy.

I know, of course, that this isn't at all important in the grand scheme of things.

Yet, I also like the idea of getting this kind of big picture in a small pond (to mix metaphors) in a way that all DUers can look at and (hopefully) acknowledge that this is who we are, this is where we're at.

I understand that it may be a waste of time and effort -- ultimately, so is the act of posting on DU at all in most cases, when it comes down to it. We're all here banging away on our keyboards -- is it meaningful or not?

If we could have a weekly DU poll, it would really help if it could be "pinned" at the top of the page. If not, it would really depend on people being willing to do the work of keeping the poll kicked up and publicized.

But I do like the idea of a weekly poll, it could be very interesting.
