Breaking: Latest Democratic Anti-Escalation Resolution!
"Resolved: that war is bad, except when it's not. And more troops is probably worse, unless it's better. Please dislike the Republicans more than us, OK?"

Yes, I made that up. It's not true. But it's not that far from the truth, is it?

There should be a law that the President and everyone and Congress must send their closest relative of correct age to whatever war they start. Then we might see some sense - until then, only posturing, chickehawkery, and craven triangulation.

1. Manny, I am so freaking sick of "triangulation" that I can't see straight!
There are two very sane, very workable plans for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. One is Feingold's and the other is Kucinich's. It wouldn't take a great deal of dickering to combine the two plans. Why can't the Democrats come together and do this? It seems that the Party is so afraid of the military/industrial/media/corporate paymasters that it pisses its collective pants just thinking about "doing the right thing". I'm sorry for the rant, but some times I just want to channel the old Howard Dean and go, "AAAARGGGHHHHGGGRRGGGG!!!

2. Add Edwards' Plan To That Menu of Alternatives....
Edwards has called for an immediate 40,000 US troops out, today! And full deployment over the next 12-18 mos as we deploy our troops to the sidelines and then out. He also has a petition you can sign which will be presented to Congress demanding that they use their power to end the escalation and bring the troops home.

You hear lots of naysayers characterizing Edwards as a 'hawk', but you need look no further than this issue to see that he has much more in common with Feingold and Kucinich than other senators.

4. Right. I guess I was just referring to people in the congress, but you are right.
We have several good, workable plans, here, and it seems that the Democrats could come together and arrive at a unified plan, incorporating all of these, and then stand together. This is where the Party should be headed...

3. If We Stay We Lose If We Leave We Lose...
This is a CYA resolution. Democrats are scared that they're gonna be blamed for boooshie's war and continue to be stigmatized by the meme that just debating this illegal invasion is akin to spitting on troops. Thus the parsing and angst that prolongs this agony.

Unfortunately, this is a byproduct of being out of power for so long. Many Democrats are just starting to understand what being the majority party is about, but still live in a minority party mindset. They timid to take what they consider chances instead of doing what they're constituents want or even their own conscience tells them...too gunshy of a corporate media eager to divide and chastize.

Meanwhile, you have the chickenshit Repugnicans who need those Defense contractor's donations and are afraid of their own spinners who are now measuring "whose a conservative" and who isn't...thus they act all macho...all hat and no cattle.

The most interesting side of this debate is how bad off the Repugnican party in the house is. Intellectually and morally bankrupt and led by some of the stupidest of the stupid.

If Democrats want to take a real stand...pass a tax increase to pay for this invasion...and stipulate it on rolling back the tax breaks to the rich.
