"They" ?
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 01:53 PM by CT_Progressive
(This thread was inspired by a reply I made to a post in another thread, but I thought it warranted its own thread. The person used the term "They" when referring to the Democratic Party.)

They?

Don't you mean "we" ?

If there are Democrats in the Democratic Party (local, state or national level) that are DINOs, or just flat-out Conservatives, then its our job to KICK THEIR ASS OUT OF OUR PARTY, not QUIT our Party. We need to FIX the Party. If you LEAVE, then the DINOs are all that remains. If instead, we force THEM OUT, then the Party gets "better".

Why are people so afraid of a little hard work? Just oust the bad Dems from our Party! Its not that hard! Just work to support good Dems to replace them! Work hard to recruit new people to the Party, good people! Work hard to get good Dems elected. Work hard to push for Primaries to get the bad Dems out!

It boggles my mind that people would abandon the party just because its not exactly the way they want it. I can TOTALLY understand leaving the Party to JOIN another Party that attracts you and you feel like you are better aligned with. But, just flat-out dropping the party? That's so totally lazy, and I can't believe anyone would do such a thing.

Don't you believe in fighting for your way of life? Don't you believe in fighting for what you think is right?

The Democratic Party consists of you and me. You and me, and everyone else that has registered. I know from the layman's point of view, the Democratic Party is Howard Dean, and Pelosi, and Reid, and all these powerful people that you think are beyond our control. But that's totally, totally wrong. You, or I, or anyone else could be Dean, or Pelosi, or Reid. Or the mini-Dean (head of the state Dem Party), or the mini-mini-Dean (head of the town Dem Party). Or the mini-Reid/Pelosi (run for State Congress). Or the mini-mini-Reid/Pelosi (run for town board of selectman/whatever your town's legislature is).

I know you FEEL powerless to change the entire Democratic Party. But you're not. That's just a misperception. We can definitely have a huge impact on the Party. All we need to do, is NOT QUIT and GET INVOLVED and WORK HARD FOR CHANGE. I'm not saying its easy. But I am saying its do-able.

So, Just Do It.

Edit: for the record, I am Vice Chairman of my town's Democratic Party, and I'm running for Board of Finance.

1. Good on you.
More people need to start locally.

Peace.

2. Most of us are affected by local politics far more than by national.
And so few people realize this.

3. That is fact.
An example of local power;

One town took back the law that gave corporations person hood and thereby the ability to screw with local politics. This happened in 2006.
