Right Wing Wackos' Theories on the California Fires
http://wizbangblue.com/2007/10/24/right-wing-wackos-theories-on-the-california-fires.php

The comment thread on a Free Republic report that posits possible arson in one of the Southern California fires has brought out the right wing wackos in full force - who are pointing their (odd-smelling) fingers at everyone from Osama bin-Laden and al-Qaeda to illegal immigrants.

The background:

Fire officials are now stating that the Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set and there is speculation that other fires may have also been deliberate.
Fire officials found three separate "points of origin," all near the intersection of Silverado Canyon Road and Santiago Canyon Road. Two were on one side of the road, and the third was on the other. "Whoever did this knew what they were doing," said Kris Concepcion, a fire authority battalion chief. Also, the fire traveled 3 miles in its first 20 minutes when it was ignited about 6 p.m. Sunday, he said.

Some comment highlights appear below -- try not to be blinded by the large congregation of tin-foil hats:

"jihadi assymetry..."
"Al Qaeda?"
"Let me be the first to say.........ILLEGALS doing the arson that Americans won't do."
I have no doubts that there is serious potential for Terrorist related fires, particularly with the Santa Anna winds. It's not rocket science or hard to imagine and I wrote and warned of such possibilities by enemies of this nation back in 2001 and 2002 in the Dragon's Fury Series.
"I had a sign "I Slam Islam" on by bench at work. They made me take it down........."
"I was very suspicious about this from the start. My main suspects would be leftists of some sort: Islamofacists or eco-terrorits"
"Since al Qaeda has ties to Russian/Soviet intelligence, as did the New Left groups in the 1960s, it is possible that they may even have received some of the old plans from their FSB contacts, updated to reflect current topography and conditions."
"Are these terrorists? At a billion dollars, this is the same cost as the WTC. Its been 8 years and something needs to be done. We can't be worrying about people with matches."
"Could it be terrorist......hmm. most likely tis,so what we gonna do about it..nothing."
"I don't know why but I suspect disgruntled "undocumented workers" since these fires are so close to the border with our neighbor to the south. Seems to me the illegals would love to put a finger in the eye of rich white Californians."
"Especially interesting to ponder since San Diego County is pretty Republican."
"terrorists harming their biggest defenders - no way! /s"
"They are NOT Santa Ana winds. They ARE Santana winds, meaning Devil winds."
Those two towards the end are my favorites, One commenter (who had suggested "illegals' were behind the arson in an earlier comment) remarks that the fires are "interesting to ponder since San Diego County is pretty Republican" which is followed immediately another comment suggesting sarcastically that the terrorists who started the fires wouldn't "harm their biggest defenders", presumably Southern California liberals. Glad their covering all of the possibilities...

The fact that many (if not all) of these idiots have the right to vote explains a lot about the current sad state of the White House today.

My theory on who started the fires. No 1 suspect Blackwater. No 2 A member of Freerepublic! No 3.. Dick Cheney and NO 4..A house flipper who can't sell his house!

1. freeptards who bought a house for far more than they could ever afford in his lifetime
even when his job wasn't taken over by an illegal "guest worker" of Bush's, who worked for far less than he would have taken for the job ...

2. here's a left-wing theory: it was recently laid-off firefighters
I say this not to diss all the good, hard-working and heroic people who fight fires, but rather based on some personal knowledge: my cousin is a career firefighter (forest service), and she tells me that the dirty little secret in their profession is that occasionally some will set fires as a kind of "jobs program."

4. Some fires in the past set by temps hired on to help in big fires too
It does happen.

Lots of suspects. Probably lots of actual arsonists, each with their own reasons.

A perfect fire storm does not just happen. One thing seems to lead to another. There are lots of opportunists out there.

7. Yes, unfortunately it does happen

Years ago in San Jose, a major shopping center and apartment complex burned to the ground as it neared completion. This was at the beginning of the dotcom crash and there just weren't any major construction projects happening (nor have there been many since). The fire was traced to construction work... however the speculation was that construction workers set the fire to ensure another 9 months to year of work for themselves. It's very hard to prove arson in a case like that.

The name of the project was Santana Row.

Another set of suspects for wildfires are simply arson bugs... and/or teenager copycats. More likely than terrorists or out of work firefighters. When the conditions are right for a major fire, they tend to come out and set them.

However, I thought I read that downed power lines set at least one of the major fires this time.

3. Agree with the order of your suspects
Pols who voted to let Blackwater into the area they wanted for their headquarters are facing a recall election. Ballots/voting by mail due to the rural nature of the area. People go to the post office for their mail, again, due to the rural nature of the area. Post office was burned down in the fire.

Hmmm.....

12. please understand how dangerous this is...
When an angry, empowered majority group becomes convinced, after being sufficiently propagandized, that an ethnic minority is to blame for a major natural disaster, the consequences can be gruesome.

It seems like just a few wackos mumbling in a corner right now, but when we get past the initial survival stage, the hunt for a scapegoat will begin in earnest. And then the mood can turn on you before you even recognize what is happening.

It is up to us to short-circuit that process.

13. Make sure you point out to these clowns
that if al-qaeda is responsible, then Bush can't protect us. And we are wasting lives,
time and money "over there", when we should be protecting ourselves "over here".

That one should keep them busy spinning for a while.

26. This also makes a convenient way of denying that global-warming played a role....

The MSM was reporting hurricane-force winds of 100 mph the first day, and 75 mph the second day. I know, from being a long-time resident, that this is unusual, even for the Santa Ana winds. Winds this strong can easily knock down power lines, sparking fires.
