More muck on Maher
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 11:07 AM by donsu
http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_2565.shtml

-snip-

Then, turning to his panel, Maher said, “You know what that’s all about? Given all the things I’ve said, and believe me, I’ve said a lot of things, as you all know, that could get my head on a block. The one they protest about out here, people think that the World Trade Center was a controlled explosion .” And here comes the piece de resistance: “So in that incident, I’m actually defending President Bush . I don’t think President Bush brought down the World Trade Center .”

But there were boos in response from more protestors. And Maher went for a laugh, saying “And cows,” referring to the protestors’ boos. He got his laugh although his Bush statement hung in the air like the atomized cloud of the Towers over the World Trade Center apocalypse.

-snip containing history on things Maher has said and done-

Well, at least, we know now you’ve suffered the slings and arrows of repression for being too smart for the room. But what have you learned, Bill, apart from pushing other people? What have you learned? And when will you learn, before you blow this show, too? Your highbrow guests, between forced smiles, were looking on somewhat in horror at the events. And Sheila, who knew right from wrong, tried to say you were walking on that precious First Amendment, the same one that was violated to show you the door. So it goes. So it goes.

12. No it wouldn't
Bill's show is not an open forum. And exactly which of the INVITED guests would you have the host push aside to allow these nutcases to "join the debate"? As it was the "crashers" cut the panel discussion in half.

It's live TV and live TV is timed to the second. Deviate from the script? You just don't do that.

idiots in the audience. The whole thing was just bizarre, and I applaud Bill and his guests for continuing the show as quickly as they did. Now, if he wants to air a SHORT taped interview with one of them, that might be acceptable, but they had no right to interrupt the show, especially for something so assinine.

you don't think the producers may have had some clue when they let people into the audience who were carrying placards?? It also allowed Maher, a very respected spokesman for the Left to denigrate the 9-11 movement, and of course there are plenty of DUers ready to jump in and try to finish it off.

21. I've watched this several times.
When Bill says "...I’m actually defending President Bush." there is a sarcastic tone in his voice which indicates he is speaking from the POV of the protesters. Of course it doesn't come though in the transcripts, but watch the clip; it's there.

What Bill is saying is that these controlled demo tinfoilers think that because he doesn't believe their remote-controlled planes, missiles and controlled explosions conspiracy theory, that makes him a full-on Bushbot.

Just like some DUers think that because Maher got pissed off that some hecklers were disrupting the show, that makes Maher a fascist.

22. To the idiot disruptors in that show: How is Bill Maher supposed to affect change?
He's neither a politician nor a journalist. "Real Time" is an entertainment and opinion show - it is NOT a news program! If you're going to protest "THE MEDIA'S" (because, of course, they all work in unison :eyes:) coverage of an issue at least have a better understanding about the difference between journalism and entertainment.

Just because YOU get your news from comedy programs (and obscure, conspiracist websites, apparently) doesn't necessarily make you informed.

Sincerely,

Writer the (semi)Curmudgeon

Once you walk into a private forum, you are immediately subject to their rules. Only the government can CENSOR a person's free speech through a rare act called PRIOR RESTRAINT.

42. So, is ignorance truly bliss?
Okay, let's start here...

"So in that incident, I’m actually defending President Bush . I don’t think President Bush brought down the World Trade Center .”"

This was a little thing called SARCASM. The concept is that he is "defending" bush from an absolutely ludicrous charge. That's not "defending" him, as much as stating the obvious.

Second comes this little gem which would be solved if they taught civics in school..."And Sheila, who knew right from wrong, tried to say you were walking on that precious First Amendment, the same one that was violated to show you the door. So it goes. So it goes."

Bill Maher cannot step on someone's First Amemdment rights, because Bill Maher does not work for the government. The first amendment ONLY applies to actions taken by the govenrment/state. That's it. Bill Maher's first amendment rights weren't violated when he was fired and this idiots first amendment rights weren't violated when Bill kicked him out.

I suspect that Bill's ratings will go up over the next few weeks as people tune in to see what will happen next.
