another Fl. beach goes toxic - Naples

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Collier pollution officials report they are tracking a mixed bloom of red tide and a non-toxic blue-green algae offshore of Naples to Wiggins Pass and onshore winds Wednesday and Thursday may increase the effects of red tide at the beaches.Water test samples Oct. 18 found red tide and Trichodesmium, the non-toxic algae, at a low to high level offshore of Wiggins Pass, according to the Collier County Pollution Control and Prevention Department.
The next water sampling will be done later this week. There have been no reports of dead fish or respiratory illness. People with chronic respiratory illnesses, such as asthma or emphysema, should avoid going to the beach because their conditions may become aggravated.Trichodesmium is a non-toxic, blue-green algae that doesn’t pose any human health concerns. Red tide is a bloom of toxic-emitting algae. For more information on red tide locally, call the county’s pollution control office for a recorded update at 732-2591.
