Rebuilding the Shangrila

www.rebuildshangrila.com

(Shangrila was the name of a place behind her home. When they moved
into their small house, they got the gate, that said "Shangrila".)

Thank you being here for us and visiting our site. Right now we are stunned and in shock,
we will be updating everyday with as much information we can get our hands on. We want to
keep everyone as informed as possible which will be the point of this site.

As you know, we lost our home, the Shangrila on Sunday, Oct.21st in the Witch Creek fire.
You all know we are a strong family and we can get through this but right now it’s going
to be very hard and from what we understand a very slow process.

We have lost everything, Lela is devastated by the loss of her toys and favorite blanket,
Charlie keeps asking for his wooden rocking horse his grandparents made him and Piper wants
her routine back and I would give anything to be able to go back and grab her baby video tapes,
her first laugh, her first smiles, I will miss those tapes.

It is so hard to find ourselves homeless and having to ask for help but we need it, any help
is so appreciated. I will keep everyone in touch and respond to all my emails as I get them.

Thank you so much. God bless.

I will update in the morning, pray for Julian.

1. Things like this always make me wary
I always try and make sure something is legit before sending anything. Maybe too many years on the Net has left me a little jaded.

4. She was interviewed on CBS twice this morning by Hanna Storm
The first time she could barely talk through her tears and the second time
she was just asking for words of encouragement. Good thoughts, advice, etc.

7. I hear you. I'm sure there
are other families with small kids that could also use some words and help but this one has a website.

Maybe she'll share her e-mails with them and maybe that'll help in some small way.

rich white people who deserved what they got that seems to be such a popular topic around here these days?

6. She didn't seem rich to me, just broken hearted and devastated.
She said her house was small but it was home. Her husband was off somewhere,
maybe trying to go back to what was left. I think they're staying at the stadium.

and I understood you right away. Even though I'm in the Bay Area, where I suppose we're all even richer...

11. My Prayers Go Out To The Fire Victims
I can`t believe there are people saying mean things about
these fire victims! I was born & raised in CA & still
consider it my home, although I now live in IL. I used to go
to the beach at Malibu when I was a kid and there weren`t any
big fancy homes there at that time. Just small wood houses
along the beach. I can`t imagine having my house burn to the
ground, let alone my whole Neighborhood! My Daughter lost her
house to fire a few years ago and I know first hand how
divistating it can be to someone. You can also learn a lot
from a fire. Keep all valuables in fire proof boxes and have
an idea of what you want to grab as you leave the house for
the last time ever. My heart goes out to all the fire
victims. I have recieved word from my CA Family members that
they are OK. I think we need to be more compassionate to our
fellow Americans. Nobody deserves criticism at a time like
this! Rich or poor, Fire Hurts Us All! If you are critical
of what others have, maybe you didn`t work hard enough to get
it!

15. glad your family's okay, and welcome to DU!
:hi:

I think the few "they deserve it" commenters have gone away or shut up by now.

I'm sorry about your daughter's fire, and thanks for the hard-learned advice.

14. Would love to send the kids something
I was watching on the news when you were interviewing you and
thought I heard you say that your little girl was sad about
losing her horses. I have been collecting Breyer model horses
for the past 50 years and I would love to send a few of them
to your little girl. I would also like to help out with any
other items the kids or you need. Is there an address where
you would be able to get things? Maybe Grandmas house or
something? I have lots of near new clothes from my
Granddaughter & I also have tons of clothes that I maybe
wore one time. (Got too fat) I would never send old wore out
things. If you could let us know where to send stuff and any
sizes you need? I don`t have much as far as money goes, but I
do care and would love to help in the best way I can. Just
need to know how. GOD BLESS!

business in these firestorms.

Many, many small business owners have lost everything.

These aren't the big guys on NASDAQ but small, independent
businesses.

The families lost everything. They have to start over from scratch.

After seeing the Rancho Bernardo fire victims interviewed on the news
yesterday, I am amazed at how positive many of them are right now.

After seeing the fire victims from the Santiago Canyon fire that moved
into Modjeska and Silverado Canyons, I get angry when anyone suggests
these fires were exclusive to "rich people". Those people aren't rich, and even if they were
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH FEELING COMPASSION FOR YOUR FELLOW MAN?
Sure it's easier for them to rebuild, but ask yourself, would you want to be in
their shoes right now?

I hope they can rebuild their lives as soon as possible.

And I hope this young mother gets some help to start over, again.
