1. an area the size of New York City, 583 square miles has burned.
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 01:26 AM by Breeze54
Is NYC larger than RI?

------------------------

With over 8.2 million residents within an area of 322 square miles (830 km²),
New York City is the second most densely populated city in the United States, ...

Rhode Island covers an area of approximately 1214 square miles (3144 km²) and
is bordered on the north and east by Massachusetts, on the west by Connecticut ...

==================================

That would be HALF of Rhode Island up in flames! Gheesh!!

I hope you and yours are safe!!! :hug:

3. I just googled - "Rhode Island sq miles"
:P

But 538 sq miles is a lot of land and I'm sure that amt. is going higher, as we write!

4. Another comparison, 500,000 of California's 37,700,000 people were evacuated. Greater New Orleans
had 1.4 million people before Katrina and Louisiana has 4.5 million people.

If California had been affected like Louisiana, then nearly 12 million would have been evacuated.

6. The death toll rises
and the acres keep burning and you don't have the decency to crawl back under your rock?

You are the lowest of the low.
