From what I can gather, they don't have big enough majorities, especially in the Senate, to be said to really *control* Congress. They have just enough to prevent Dick Cheney having full control of it like he did.

Of course, it's possible to have a huge majority of a nominally left-wing party in a legislature, and for it still to accept all kinds of right-wing policies. Not that I have any experience of such a thing in my country, of course(!!!) Anyway, I hope the Dems do get a huge majority next time, and control things properly.
