I'm willing to give my party one more chance in Nov 2008...
I'm hanging on simply because I'm a lifelong Dem and it's hard to wash all that away...

But I gotta tell you---I'm disgusted with the bunch we have sitting on Capitol Hill. I do think that we will have a vast majority in the House and Senate after next years elections--- and we will have the White House. But if I see that it's still business as usual, then my loyalty will be gone and I'll look at other alternatives. The knuckleheads we have in there today have let me down over and over since they took the majority, and I'm sick of it.

1. You and I would have already brought home most of the troops.
I would make a better Speaker of the House.

7. That's what we were lead to believe. It's too bad that forces within are involved in a power
struggle to put forth their own agenda over the wishes of the people.

4. I was a lifelong straight party Dem until witnessing their fight for votes in '04.
It opened my eyes. Now although in most cases I will support the Democrat, I would rather write in a worthy candidate than vote for someone who places a D after their name but in fact is destroying the values of the Democratic Party (I never remember supporting corporate interest over that of the party base as being in the platform before. Guess I forgot to read the fine print put in by the DLC)

5. So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time
"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."

Don't let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well--especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.

13. I will vote for president because there is no f'ing way
a republican can reenter that office right now (except for Ron Paul but I'm not voting for him). I will vote for democratic judges. I will vote for democrats in the state legislature if they are right on the issues. I will vote for any candidate for governor against rendition flights and torture and will act on it. If there are none, I will not be voting for that office. I will vote for any dem running for senate as my two senators are republicans from hell. I'm not sure I will vote for reps in the House. Any except president will have to be an earned vote. Any unknowns will have to express their views completely or I can't guarantee my vote will be there.

as of today...

My vote for Democrats, of 33 years, is officially OFF THE TABLE!

I'm not promising the party, MY PARTY, a goddamned thing between now and November 2008.

We'll see if they manage to earn some respect, but I'm not holding my breath.

So far, they are no longer worthy of my franchise.

28. Strange days indeed...
Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs
Always something happening and nothing going on
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China so finish what you got

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- strange days indeed

Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move
Everyone's a winner and nothing left to lose
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu
Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground
Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound
There's a place for us in the movies you just gotta lay around

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky
There's a UFO over New York and I ain't too surprised

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

The Doors/Strange Days

Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
Theyre going to destroy
Our casual joys
We shall go on playing
Or find a new town

Yeah!

Strange eyes fill strange rooms
Voices will signal their tired end
The hostess is grinning
Her guests sleep from sinning
Hear me talk of sin
And you know this is it

Yeah!

Strange days have found us
And through their strange hours
We linger alone
Bodies confused
Memories misused
As we run from the day
To a strange night of stone

Our friend Mr. Trumad says he is prepared to support the party in '08, and moments later, he has to defend himself. I think that people should be thankful that grass roots democrats are planning to support the party in '08. I sure am.

second term. The actions of the House today regarding Pete Stark depresses me almost as much as Bush's reelection in 2004. The fact that certain Dems would do what they did to a fellow Dem is beyond the pale. Within a few days, I will no longer be a Democrat. I called my county's Voter Registrar and they will send me the form to re-register as an indipendent.
Bill Clinton has in the past said that the American voter almost always gets it right. Did Heath Schuler get his vote right? Or Gene Taylor, or the Indiana Democratic House members?
I think I can understand a lot of the reluctance over the Iraq War. Right now, it is Bush's quagmire. They don't want to turn it into the War the Democrats Lost. But, first the Moveon vote, and now this? This isn't the Democratic Party I want to be a part of.
I'm not a big lost. I stopped contributing to the Party years ago. I will now withhold vote.

38. Here's an article...
Seems more and more people are getting fed up and doing it.
I'm giving them one more chance in the primary and then it's 3rd party city.
I'll probably still vote for some Democrats but no longer will I vote a straight ticket.

Turning Left: Why I left the Democrats

By Debra Reiger

Just a few years ago I was still registered to vote as a Democrat. What was I thinking?! I finally woke up to the realization that the Democrats would never represent me, and that progressive change is all but impossible within that party.

Sure, I realized that my views were more progressive than those of my fellow Democrats. And of course the Democratic Party's candidates continued to be pretty disappointing. But I had been registered with the party for a long time, and I still hoped that the party would make some good choices for change. I thought that maybe the Democrats would promote improved democracy by supporting proportional representation (wrong!), or by standing up against the needless killing in Iraq (wrong!), or by supporting immigrant rights (still wrong). I was always disappointed, but figured that there must be some benefit to sticking with one of the two "major" parties.

The deciding event for me occurred when a local special election was called to fill a congressional seat that opened when the elected representative died. In this safe Democrat-controlled district, several qualified Democrats announced that they would run for the office, including two liberals and one progressive. The Democratic Party decided to run a moderate who had not previously held elected office, and pushed the others out of the race. Although twelve candidates from multiple parties ran in that election, the Democrats who could have made a difference were forced out. My political party had taken away my voting options.
