2. disaster capitalism
Chaos=profit opportunity.

I'd be willing to bet that there's some glee in certain circles. The plan to profit was already written, most likely.

And if there was arson.....it's MIHOP.

Actually, fires were linked with what I now realize was an early form of "disaster capitalism", more than 2000 years ago -- the Roman politician Crassus got rich off his private fire companies that would make money off desperate homeowners. And then later there was the land grab when Nero took advantage of the fires that burned many people's homes, to construct a lavish palace for himself.

I was re-reading Klein's book last night, as I saw the fire coverage on CNN.

For those who haven't seen it yet -- there's a short film up on the book's website.

And her article from a few days ago, in the LA Times. Doesn't mention fires yet, but very interesting.

13. Shock Doctrine unfolding in California?
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-electoral23oct23,0,4216231.story?coll=la-home-

Republican's have relaunched their effort to split California's electoral votes. The measure stalled last month due to a lack of money. They have till Nov 13th to get enough money a signatures to place the initiative on next June's ballot. That gives them 3 weeks to do what they had given up on. Ed Rollins is involved.

The Bush admin claim that the new FEMA is going to be very responsive. He stuttered when he got to the word 'help.' I wonder if that means help as in Katrina help?Helping these Californians out would be contrary to the Shock Doctrine. You remember how he promised to help New Orleans? Nothing came of it.
